Rumsfeld Denies Coverup in Tillman Murder (So you know there was one)

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on August 1st, 2007 10:21 am by HL

Rumsfeld was asked whether he had any contact with Whitehouse about the case before it became public knowledge. Guess what his answer was, never mind because you couldn’t possibly guess if I gave you 100 chances. Ok you know what he said? “I Don’t Recall.” He also didn’t recall when he first heard about Tillman’s death, or what he had for breakfast this morning.

Rumsfeld: No cover-up in Tillman’s death

Time
Excerpt

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said Wednesday there was no evidence of a cover-up of the circumstances of Army Ranger Cpl. Pat Tillman’s death.

“I know that I would not engage in a cover-up. I know that no one in the White House suggested such a thing to me,” Rumsfeld testified before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which is examining what senior Defense Department officials knew about Tillman’s April 2004 death by friendly fire and when they knew it.

Tillman’s parents, brother and widow attended the hearing.

Rumsfeld said he was sure Tillman’s family felt “great sorrow at their son’s death” and “the handling of the circumstances could only have added to the pain of losing a loved one. I offer … my deep regrets.”

John Stuart on Corrupt Republican Senator Ted Stevens.

The FBI searched Alaskan Senator Ted Steven home, yesterday. Stevens apparently is hip deep in all kinds of bribes, payoffs, and kickbacks, Hey he’s a Republican. What do you expect.

Democrats Close to Giving Bush Everything He Wants in Spy Bill

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on August 1st, 2007 10:05 am by HL

That the only kind of “Compromise” The Democrats do.

Bush, Democrats closer to deal on spying bill

AP
Excerpt:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Democratic lawmakers said on Wednesday they were closer to a deal with U.S. President George W. Bush to expand the government’s anti-terror powers to eavesdrop on telephone calls and e-mail from abroad.

With the U.S. Congress scheduled to leave for an August recess by this weekend, the divisive domestic spying program was one area of some agreement between Bush and Democratic and Republican congressional leaders at a White House breakfast….

Democrats have been reluctant to give Bush broad changes to the existing law on domestic spying, citing concerns about potential civil liberties violations. Bush wants more leeway to conduct surveillance to prevent terrorist attacks.

In the face of Bush’s new demand that Democrats send him legislation before the recess, scheduled for Friday, Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada said they thought a compromise might be possible on narrowly tailored legislation.

HLs Take
The story does not say what that “Compromise” might be. I guess they figure why state the obvious. Democrats idea of compromise. OK have it your way, just let us pretend we fought against it for a little while.

Dick Cheney Does The “I Don’t Recall” Shuffle.

Larry King: Did you….
Cheney: I Don’t Recall
King: Let me ask the question first Then say I Don’t recall
Cheney: OK
Reporter: How can you say you don’t recall when you don’t know the question.
King: Doesn’t matter, I don’t recall. (or something like that watch the video)

More Americans Moving to Canada

American moves to Canada reach record high

Canadian Broadcasting Co.
Excerpt:
The number of Americans admitted to Canada last year reached a 30-year high, with a 20 per cent increase over the previous year and nearly double the number that arrived in 2000.

The survey found that 10,942 Americans came to Canada in 2006, compared to just over 9,262 in 2005. In 2000, 5,828 came to the country.

HLs Take
I have thought about going up there myself to check out the situation. A little vacation to Vancouver might soon be in order. At least up there I would have health Insurance, which I do not have now. Vancouver has legal Hash bars, and it’s right next to the ocean so there must be some surfing. I don’t know get up early, hit the waves, (in the summer only no wetsuit is thick enough for that kind of winter as far as I am concerned) then hit the “Bar” to work on “The Hollywood Liberal in Self Imposed Exile”. Hmmmm.

Bush Gives Away 190,000 Weapons to The “Enemy”

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on August 1st, 2007 9:46 am by HL

Remember when a couple of years ago, the US lost around 4 tons of plastic explosives in Iraq. Well the Failure Monkey and his minions are at it again. Now they have lost 190,000 weapons and we are talking the heavy stuff, in Iraq. How do you lose 4 tons of explosives and all those Guns. Only total incompetence could account for this. Or is it that Bush is arming the Insurgency, so that the war will go on and on and on, and he can continue to keep his friends and cohorts raking in the money forever. It’s an old Bush Family trick. Bush’s Grandfather Prescott did the same thing for the Nazi’s during World War 2.

US ‘loses’ 190,000 weapons in Iraq

News.com Austrailia
Excerpt:

THE US Government cannot account for 190,000 weapons issued to Iraqi security forces in 2004 and 2005, says the Government Accountability Office.

According to its July 31 report, the military “cannot fully account for about 110,000 AK-47 assault rifles, 80,000 pistols, 135,000 items of body armour and 115,000 helmets reported as issued to Iraqi forces”.

The weapons disappeared from records between June 2004 and September 2005, as the military struggled to rebuild the disbanded Iraqi forces from scratch amid increasing attacks from Sunni insurgents and Shiite militias.

US commanders often accuse foreign powers such as Iran of supplying arms to illegal militias fighting in Iraq, but the report shows they cannot fully account for the hundreds thousands of weapons they brought in themselves.

Last month, Turkey raised concerns over reports that separatist Kurdish guerrillas launching cross-border raids from northern Iraq had received US-supplied guns supposedly destined for Iraqi security forces.

Keith Olbermann & John Dean Talk Gonzalez

Posted in Main Blog (All Posts), Videos on August 1st, 2007 9:37 am by HL

Republicans say all Gonzalez information is classified, thats why you can’t know the truth. Gonzo still has time to “correct” his testimony, or The Democrats say they may impeach Gonzalez. But don’t worry, they won’t. Just like they will do nothing about Bush, The war, or any damn thing else.

Guess Who is Paying for New Nuclear Power Plants: Us

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on August 1st, 2007 9:30 am by HL

Being that we have the Master Disaster Monkey as President, this story comes as no surprise. Nuclear Power, or should I say Nucular Power is coming back. Back in the ’70s and ’80s all the politicians and anyone who could make money on it loved Nuclear power. Then came 3 Mile Island in 1979, which nearly blew half of Pennsylvania sky high. On Long Island where I am from we fought against The Shoreham Nuclear Plant going online, and won. There were no emergency plans to get people off the Island should the whole thing blow up. Then in 1985 we had Chernobyl in Russia which killed thousands immediately and who knows how many came down with Cancer even to this day.
So it’s only Natural that Bush and The Republicans (as well as some Democrats who as we know are mostly Republicans under a different name judging by whats been going on lately) are full throttle behind Nuclear power plants.
They make money, of course, and who knows maybe there will be an accident where thousands of people would die. Bush would have no problem with that. So of course not only are they behind it, they are using or tax money to make sure it happens as much as possible

Energy Bill Aids Expansion of Atomic Power

NY Times
Excerpt:

The biggest champion of the loan guarantees is Senator Pete V. Domenici of New Mexico, the ranking Republican on the Senate Energy Committee and one of the nuclear industry’s strongest supporters in Congress.

Senator Jeff Bingaman, Democrat of New Mexico and the energy bill’s author, has long argued that nuclear power plants do not need federal loan guarantees. Mr. Bingaman said that the industry was over-interpreting the provision and that it would provide loan guarantees for only the most innovative power plants.

But the provision has the potential to considerably expand the nuclear industry, which plans to build 28 new reactors at an estimated cost of about $4 billion to $5 billion apiece. And while the nuclear industry would be the biggest beneficiary, the provision could also set the stage for billions of dollars in loan guarantees for power plants that use “clean coal” technology and renewable fuels.

The nuclear industry is enjoying growing political support after decades of opposition from environmental groups and others concerned about the risks. An increasing number of lawmakers in both parties, worried about global warming and dependence on foreign oil, support some expansion of nuclear power.

HLs Take
Well I guess there are only 2 choices. Dependence on foreign oil which means never ending war in Iraq, Iran and elsewhere, and $3.00 a gallon, or we can have Nuclear Power Plants which could blow up and kill tens of thousands. If only there were a third choice, one that could provide a safe, clean energy. Too bad there is no way to use the Sun for power. Oh yeah there is, but Politicians, and the oil industry won’t make Billions off of that.

Ron Paul The Real Deal

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on August 1st, 2007 9:16 am by HL

The Ron Paul candidacy continues to gain momentum. Lets see If I was a Republican I could choose between “Insane McCain” who swears Iraq is safe, and has no more money to campaign.
I could choose Fred Thompson, an actor who’s campaign is falling apart before it starts. Mitt Romney, who likes to kill varmints to show what a man he is. Rudy Guiliani, whose own firefighters and almost all New Yorkers hate. You know, the ones that know him best…Then their is Ron Paul, who might be better then some of the Democrats running. I wouldn’t mind seeing a Kucinich Vs. Paul election. Of course the Republicrats would hate that.

The Ron Paul Saga-The Best is Yet to Come

Excerpt:

If we are going to defeat big government corruption and tyranny, and rid ourselves of huge deficits that are spiraling out of control, there will have to be a coming together of the people. Unfortunately, the global elite have many of us trapped in the whole fake left/right paradigm which does nothing, but divide and conquer, and is designed to keep us down. Many are blind to Republican corruption, but have no problem exposing the Democrats and vice versa. What we have is both parties double teaming us with fake squabbles and theater politics, when essentially their goals are the same. Only their methods, propaganda, and rhetoric differ a little. The good news is that many are waking up, and the illusion is being shattered, which is evident by the increasing mistrust of both parties by the people coupled with low congressional and presidential approval ratings. Ron Paul running as a Republican and not as an independent has resulted in more exposure, and has placed him on more of an even playing field, with a better chance of becoming president. He is the dream candidate we have all been waiting for. We must rally around him, do what is right, and vote according to our conscience, not party affiliation or tradition. This is a historic opportunity, and everything in our power must be done to ensure a Ron Paul victory.
