Bush Refuses to Answer Congressional Subpoenas

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on June 28th, 2007 10:04 am by HL

White House refuses to answer subpoenas

MSNBC
Excerpt:
WASHINGTON - President Bush, moving toward a constitutional showdown with Congress, asserted executive privilege Thursday and rejected lawmakers’ demands for documents that could shed light on the firings of federal prosecutors.

Bush’s attorney told Congress the White House would not turn over subpoenaed documents for former presidential counsel Harriet Miers and former political director Sara Taylor. Congressional panels want the documents for their investigations of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales’ stewardship of the Justice Department, including complaints of undue political influence.

“It’s pretty clear that again members of Congress are engaged in an attempt … to try to do what they can to make life more difficult for the White House,” Snow said.

HL’s Take
Uh, yeah Tony, that’s their job. To root out corruption and crime amongst the biggest criminal organization in the world. I know you would like it Tony if they would just leave you poor guys alone and stop bullying you, the way the Republicans did during the first 6 years of Bush’s reign.
I guess Tony thinks that the Democrats are just “playing politics” again. So now the long awaited constitutional showdown will begin. The lame ass democrats will take it to court where the supreme court will eventually rule 5-4 that Bush does not have to answer to congress. Of course if Congress would issue contempt of congress citations and begin impeachment proceedings we could avoid the upcoming dog and pony show, but you know that will never happen.

Playing Politics: Republican Subpoenas of Clinton Outnumber Bush Subpoenas 1500-5

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on June 28th, 2007 9:55 am by HL

So who likes to play politics? The Republicans issued over 1500 subpoenas to the Clinton administration. Yet the Republicans cry “playing politics” when they get subpoenas for the real crimes against America that they commit every single day. Here is Air America’s Randi Rhodes with the details. If you have never listened to Randi’s Air America Show by the way, you should give it a try. I dare any ditto monkey to go up against her and not coming out looking like fool

Bush Loses Again on Immigration

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on June 28th, 2007 9:46 am by HL

Apparently George W. Bush still does not realize how much he is poison to the Republican party as well as the nation. Bush confidentally predicted a couple of weeks ago that he would see reporters at the signing ceremony for his immigration bill. Bush’s own people however are no longer cowering in fear at whatever Bush says he wants. (the democrats still are of course)
Bush is the lamest of lame ducks. Too bad we couldn’t do something to get him out early as the next year and a half will be wasted in terms of getting anything meaningful done. Meanwhile the war in Iraq will rage on until Bush is finally dragged out of office. I think Bush was so hot on this immigration bill because it was a way to keep Iraq off the front pages. I have not seen any stories on Iraq in a couple of days now in the MSM, and even the blogs are starting to not pay as much attention anymore. Bush realizes that he is a failure in everything he does and he was hoping to at least have this one thing to point to as a success. Sorry Geogre, absolute failure sucks absolutely, and so do you.

Senate blocks immigration bill

AP
Excerpt:
WASHINGTON - The Senate drove a stake Thursday through President Bush’s plan to legalize millions of unlawful immigrants, likely postponing major action on immigration until after the 2008 elections.

After the stinging political setback, Bush sounded resigned to defeat.

“Legal immigration is one of the top concerns of the American people, and Congress’ failure to act on it is a disappointment,” he said after an appearance in Newport, R.I. “A lot of us worked hard to see if we couldn’t find common ground. It didn’t work.”

Dick Cheney Halliburton Stock up over 3000% Since 2004

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on June 28th, 2007 9:36 am by HL

More fallout from Dick Cheney and his Halliburton stock. In 2005 The US Government has handed out almost $400 Billion in no bid contracts as opposed to $160 Billion in competitive contracts. This alone should be an impeachable offense. (On top of everything else Bush and Cheney should be put on trial for) Most of the no bids of course are going to Halliburton which Cheney as former CEO still owns hundreds of thousands of shares in. Why doesn’t congress do something about the fact that Cheney is the world’s biggest war profiteer. The Democrats are failing us because they refuse to do anything about a guy who is violating the constitution and the American people at every turn. IMPEACH THESE BASTARDS ALREADY

Report: ‘Shadow Goverment’ Of Private Contractors Explodes Under Bush

Raw Story
Excerpt:
A new report by the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform concludes that, under the Bush administration, the “shadow government of private companies working under federal contract has exploded in size. Between 2000 and 2005, procurement spending increased by over $175 billion dollars, making federal contracts the fastest growing component of federal discretionary spending.”

Chart shows government no bid contracts vs. competitive contracts
– Halliburton has been the “fastest growing contractor.” Under the Bush administration, federal spending to Halliburton “increased over 600% between 2000 and 2005.” The Government Accountability Office recently found that the government has wasted at least $2.7 billion to Halliburton on “overpriced contracts or undocumented costs.” At the end of 2005, Cheney’s stock options were valued at more than $8 million, a 3,281 percent gain from 2004.

Young People Becoming Increasingly More Liberal

Poll Shows Liberal Ideas Gaining With Young People

NY Times
Excerpt:
Young Americans are more likely than the general public to favor a government-run universal health care insurance system, an open-door policy on immigration and the legalization of gay marriage, according to a New York Times/CBS News/MTV poll. The poll also found that they are more likely to say the war in Iraq is heading to a successful conclusion.

In a snapshot of a group whose energy and idealism have always been as alluring to politicians as its scattered focus and shifting interests have been frustrating, the poll found that substantially more Americans between the ages of 17 and 29 than four years ago are paying attention to the presidential race. But they appeared to be really familiar with only two of the candidates, Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton, both Democrats.

They have continued a long-term drift away from the Republican Party, and although they are just as worried as the general population about the outlook for the country and think their generation is likely to be worse off than that of their parents, they retain a belief that their votes can make a difference, the poll found.

4 Part Dick Cheney Story in Washington Post

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on June 27th, 2007 6:39 am by HL

Have your read the 4 part series by the Washington Post on Dick Cheney. if not here it is.

Angler: The Vice Presidency of Dick Cheney

Washington Post
Excerpt:
In Oregon, a battleground state that the Bush-Cheney ticket had lost by less than half of 1 percent, drought-stricken farmers and ranchers were about to be cut off from the irrigation water that kept their cropland and pastures green. Federal biologists said the Endangered Species Act left the government no choice: The survival of two imperiled species of fish was at stake.

Law and science seemed to be on the side of the fish. Then the vice president stepped in.

First Cheney looked for a way around the law, aides said. Next he set in motion a process to challenge the science protecting the fish, according to a former Oregon congressman who lobbied for the farmers.

Because of Cheney’s intervention, the government reversed itself and let the water flow in time to save the 2002 growing season, declaring that there was no threat to the fish. What followed was the largest fish kill the West had ever seen, with tens of thousands of salmon rotting on the banks of the Klamath River.

Characteristically, Cheney left no tracks.

Elizabeth Edwards Bitch Slaps Ann Coulter on National TV

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on June 27th, 2007 6:06 am by HL

Coulter is clearly flustered when she gets called on her hate speech. Watch her squirm as Edwards takes her down. Why this bitch is even on TV anymore with her Republicans approval ratings lower then pond scum just proves once and for all that the Conservative Republican media whores are alive and well, and will never report what is really going on regarding the mood of the country. No one wants to hear this piece of s**t anymore. I considered not putting it up here just to not give her more publicity, but readers of this site are not going to start becoming Ann fans anyway.

Here is a video of Coulter wishing John Edwards would die in a terrorist attack.

List of people convicted in Abramoff scandal so far

Mathaba.net
Excerpt:
Former Deputy Interior Secretary Steven Griles, the highest-ranking Bush administration official convicted in the scandal, was sentenced to 10 months in prison for lying to senators. He pleaded guilty to obstructing a congressional investigation. He admitted lying to a Senate committee about his relationship with Abramoff, who repeatedly sought Griles’ intervention at Interior on behalf of Indian tribal clients.

-Former Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, sentenced in January to 2 1/2 years in prison, acknowledged taking bribes from Abramoff. Ney was in the traveling party on an Abramoff-sponsored golfing trip to Scotland at the heart of the case against former White House official David Safavian.

-Abramoff is serving six years in prison on a criminal case out of Florida, where he pleaded guilty in January 2006 to charges of conspiracy, honest services fraud and tax evasion. He has not yet been sentenced on charges of mail fraud, conspiracy and tax evasion stemming from the influence-peddling scandal in Washington. Abramoff is cooperating in a bribery investigation involving lawmakers, their aides and members of the Bush administration.

CNN Showing Their True Priorities Cancels Michael Moore for Paris Hilton

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on June 27th, 2007 5:54 am by HL

CNN, The Cable News Network should change their names to CCNN, Celebrity Cable News Network. That is because they have decided to dump Michael Moore who was supposed to be on Larry King Live to talk about his new movie Sicko. Instead they are going to have a much more important story, far more important then people dying every day because they have no health insurance. They got the first Paris Hilton Interview since her release from jail this morning. CNN is the biggest whore network ever. Anyone who watches that piece of crap to get hard news, is wasting their time. Hey CNN I hear that Lindsay Lohan had decided to stay longer at rehab then originally planned. Maybe you should do a week long retrospective. Next time Britney Spears shaves her head you should cancel all commercials and do a full day devoted to Britney. Screw television, keep it here on the HL for all the important stories.

McCain To Drop Out of Race by September

McCain could pull out of race by September, UK paper asserts

Raw Story
Excerpt:
A Sunday report by one of Britain’s best political reporters in Washington posits that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is on his last legs and may abandon his bid for the presidency as soon as September “if his fundraising dries up and his poll ratings continue to drop.”

McCain’s staff vigorously denied the allegation.

Pullen also delivered another devastating blow, saying he believed that McCain could lose his home state of Arizona.

“It looks to me like Arizona will be in play,” Pullen said.

One veteran Republican consultant told the Sunday Times he thought the odds of McCain remaining in the race beyond autumn were 3-1 against.

“He’ll be gone by September,” predicted Tom Edmonds. “The wheels are coming off his wagon and it’s hard to see how he can recover

HL’s Take
I predicted this on one of my NBC News Raw Videos that I made about 2 months ago. McCain won’t even make it to the primaries is how I put it. Crazy old John is so out of touch it is ridiculous. We also alluded to McCain’s problems in a comic back on April 23, called Republican Presidential Forum: The Candidates Speak. Here is an excerpt.

Few Healthcare Lobbyists Show Up For Sicko

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on June 25th, 2007 6:21 am by HL

Michael Moore held a screening for “Sicko” for lobbyists for the healthcare industry. He also held a Q&A session with the members who attended (which were not many) Here is a video of that session.

Sicko Will Force Democrats to Explain Subservience to The Healthcare and Pharmecuitical Industry

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on June 25th, 2007 6:14 am by HL

‘Sicko’ leaves top Democrats ill at ease

LA Times
Excerpt:
Instead of greeting the film with hosannas or challenging it head-on, however, the leading Democratic presidential candidates have sidestepped direct comment on Moore’s proposals.

Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois and former Sen. John Edwards of South Carolina all have staked out positions sharply at odds with Moore’s approach. But none of them is eager to have that fact dragged into the spotlight.

If Moore’s fire-breathing proposal catches on among party activists, who tend to be suspicious of the private sector and supportive of direct government action, the candidates’ pragmatic, consensus-seeking ideas could look like weak-kneed temporizing — much the way their rejection of an immediate pullout from Iraq has drawn heated criticism from antiwar activists…..

For most Democratic presidential candidates (Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich of Ohio advocates a government single-payer program), it’s [the film} more like a headache.

HL’s Take
This movie is going to have a significant impact on the Democratic nomination. Most of the democratic candidates (excluding the only good candidate Dennis Kucinich) have health care plans that are directly to beholden to their corporate masters at the insurance companies. Hilary, Obama, and Edwards, have already signed off on allowing the Healtcare industry to continue record profit while we the people get shafted and killed off by the insurance companies
like Humana, and Kaiser. When people see this movie they will be insenced and demand answers.
The candidates will have no choice but to go on record and defend their complete acquiescence
to big Phamra, and the health care industry. Dennis Kucinich will come out of this looking better and better, just as he does on the war. Kucinich is the only candidate who has not sold his sole to the health industry, just as he is the only candidate who had not sold his sole to weapons contractors and the oil companies. More and more people will see this as the primary season, and Convention draws closer. Ahhh who am I kidding, Hilary already has the nomination sewn up, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Will she lose to yet another republican in Nov. ‘08.
It’s a distinct possibility.

Bush Has No Proof of Anything Against Jose Padilla

Newsweek

The Jose Padilla Case: Screenplay by Mel Brooks

Uruknet
Excerpt:
Padilla never did anything wrong. He’s just a victim of circumstance—an unwitting lab-rat in Bush’s grand strategy to repeal the constitution. In 5 years the government hasn’t come up with a shred of evidence that connects him to ANY CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. Nothing! The charges are completely bogus— even the government attorneys know it. That’s why they coerced the judge into letting them “play parts of an old television interview with Osama bin Laden” in court last week. It’s just another sign of their complete desperation.

My God, is that the best the “multi-million dollar” prosecution can come up with after 5 years— “grainy old bin Laden tapes?

Pathetic!

The judge never should have allowed such prejudicial gibberish to be entered into the record. Padilla’s connection to al Qaida is purely speculative. It’s probably just more Bush bunkum.

Last week the government’s case began to unravel when FBI Special agent James T. Kavanaugh revealed that “Padilla was never overheard using purported ‘code words’ for violent jihad in intercepted telephone conversations”.

Really? So that was a lie, too!

Bush Approval Rating at Rockbottom. Congress Even Lower

Posted in Main Blog (All Posts) on June 22nd, 2007 11:05 am by HL

Bush is the worst of the worstNewsweek has just come out with it’s latest Bush popularity poll, the number is (drumroll please)
Ta-da, 26%, which is the lowest of any President since Nixon, and we all know what happened to him. Bush is less popular then bathtub scum right now, but you know what is worse. Congress, that is what is worse. Their approval rating is even lower then Bush. If this isn’t a sign to impeach the bastard already I don’t know what is. Congress, is currently controlled by the Democrats, they were put back in power to end the Iraq War, you know the one where another 16 soldiers have been killed in the past couple of days. Democrats have the power to stop the war, but they don’t. Their BS reason is that “oooh we don’t want to be blamed by Republicans for having lost the war, oooh we don’t want to face 30 commercials where those nasty republicans blame it all on us.” As I have pointed out before, you can’t lose a war that was already lost on the day it started. The Democrats know this, but the leaders of the party lie to us and say they are afraid. (I believe they are afraid, but not of losing, they want to lose) Now that the Democratic controlled congress ratings are even lower then monkey scum, how about doing something about it. The truth is that they don’t do anything because they don’t want to hurt their “boy.” It’s all one big party folks, the Republicrats. They band together to fight us the people. It’s class warfare at it’s finest. The polls prove that people are pissed off at congress because they don’t get Bush out of office by any means necessary. We need to replace all these fake democrats with real democrats (Ones that will vote to impeach, and end the war) like Dennis Kucinich. Vote Kucinich in 2008, the only real Democrat in the field.

Newsweek

How Low Can He Go?

Excerpt:
June 21, 2007 - In 19 months, George W. Bush will leave the White House for the last time. The latest NEWSWEEK Poll suggests that he faces a steep climb if he hopes to coax the country back to his side before he goes. In the new poll, conducted Monday and Tuesday nights, President Bush’s approval rating has reached a record low. Only 26 percent of Americans, just over one in four, approve of the job the 43rd president is doing; while, a record 65 percent disapprove, including nearly a third of Republicans.

Do the Writers of Li’l Bush Read The H.L.?

Posted in Main Blog (All Posts) on June 22nd, 2007 9:45 am by HL

I was over a friends house a couple of days ago, he had Comedy Central on, which was running a show I had never seen before called Li’l Bush. The show is a cartoon of Bush, Cheney, Rove, and Condi as kids. Bush is the ringleader and gets them into all kinds of trouble. In the episode I was watching the “kids” decide to start a band. They come out onstage dressed up like Kiss. I’m not sure if Cheney was Gene Simmons, but it sounded awfully familiar.
Here is an H.L. Comic flashback from August of 2006, that they may have seen, Its called Dick Cheney: GOP Rock star

Cheney: What Happens in my Office, Stays in my Office

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on June 22nd, 2007 9:36 am by HL

Dick Cheney is trying to claim that his office is not part of the executive branch of the federal government. That’s why he thinks it’s ok that he does not have to answer questions about his secrecy to Information Security Oversight Office, who’s job it is to make sure that things that are supposed to be public information are public information. Cheney even tried to have the offie shut down so he could keep all his evil activities to himself. Fortunately Hollywood’s own congressman Henry Waxman is on the job.

Agency Is Target in Cheney Fight on Secrecy Data

NY Times
Excerpt:
For four years, Vice President Dick Cheney has resisted routine oversight of his office’s handling of classified information, and when the National Archives unit that monitors classification in the executive branch objected, the vice president’s office suggested abolishing the oversight unit, according to documents released yesterday by a Democratic congressman.

Representative Henry A. Waxman, Democrat of California and chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, disclosed Mr. Cheney’s effort to shut down the oversight office. Mr. Waxman, who has had a leading role in the stepped-up efforts by Democrats to investigate the Bush administration, outlined the matter in an eight-page letter sent Thursday to the vice president and posted, along with other documentation, on the committee’s Web site.

Romney Campaign Chief Takes Leave: Being Investigated for Impersonating a State Trooper

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on June 22nd, 2007 9:23 am by HL

It seems that Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s director of campaign operations likes to pose as a cop. 3 years ago, he was cited and fined for having undercover cop lights and sirens on his car that he used to try to intimidate people and get around traffic. The man whose name is Jay Garrity has just taken a leave of absence from the campaign while he is being investigated on two more charges of impersonating an officer. In one Garrity called a small business to complain that one of their employees was driving erratically. Garrity who identified himself as State Trooper Garrity, called the office and threatened the company in which the driver was employed. In a separate a journalist for the N.Y. Times who was covering John McCain’s campaign was following Romney’s motorcade. Garrity pulled him over, claimed he was a cop and told the reporter that he had ran his license (which is illegal for a non cop to do) and ordered the reporter to stop following them. Garrity even had a fake police badge that he would use. Typical Republicans, they think they can do whatever they want, and if not they can lie, cheat and steal, and pretend to be cops to get there way.

Romney aide is the focus of probe
Allegedly acted as State Police trooper

Boston Globe
Excerpt:
Jay Garrity, who is director of operations on Romney’s presidential campaign and a constant presence at his side, became the primary target of the investigation, according to one of the sources, after authorities traced the cellphone used to make the call back to him. The investigation comes three years after Garrity, while working for Romney in the State House, was cited for having flashing lights and other police equipment in his car without proper permits.

The New Hampshire attorney general, according to the Associated Press, has also opened an investigation into a report that a Romney aide, later identified as Garrity, pulled over a New York Times reporter in New Hampshire and said he had run his license plate.

New Hampshire law prohibits private citizens from accessing license plate databases or pulling over fellow citizens.
