MSM Pissing Themselves in Fear Over Kucinich

Special Report: WashPo and Time Help ABC Bury Treatment of Kucinich

Media Bloodhound
Excerpt
The Only candidate worth electingFollowing last Sunday’s Democratic presidential debate on ABC News’ This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Dennis Kucinich’s campaign asked ABC News to address issues it had with treatment Rep. Kucinich (D-Ohio) received both during the debate and afterward in ABC’s online coverage….

ABC News representatives felt it necessary to answer the Kucinich campaign’s objections when Time magazine’s National Political Correspondent Karen Tumulty queried them. Writing on the Time blog Swampland, Tumulty initially says of the Kucinich team’s issues with ABC’s treatment (which included Kucinich not having a chance to speak until 28 minutes into the debate)…

First, just so we’re all up to speed, here are the issues (an aggregate of the thousands of complaints received during and after ABC’s debate coverage) that the Kucinich campaign asked ABC News to address:

* Congressman Kucinich was apparently deliberately cropped out of a "Politics Page" photo of the candidates.

* Sometime Monday afternoon, after Congressman Kucinich took a
commanding lead in ABC’s own on-line "Who won the Democratic debate"
survey, the survey was dropped from prominence on the website.

* ABC News has not officially reported the results of its online survey.

* After the results of that survey showed Congressman Kucinich
winning handily, ABC News, sometime Monday afternoon, replaced the
original survey with a second survey asking "Who is winning the
Democratic debate?"

* During the early voting Monday afternoon and evening, U.S. Senator
Barack Obama was in the lead. By sometime late Monday or early Tuesday
morning, Congressman Kucinich regained the lead by a wide margin in
this second survey.

* Sometime Tuesday morning, ABC News apparently dropped the second survey from prominence or killed it entirely.

HL’s Take
The Washington Post, Time, and rest of the MSM should be afraid of Kucinich. They know that if he wins the whole ball of wax goes up in flames. No more huge corporate tax cuts. No more being a part of the “insiders” that allow the BS in this country perpetrated by Republicans to go unchecked, and unreported. Of course they will immediatly begin bashing him, but like with Ron Paul, the people are learning more and more everyday what a bunch of bought and paid for lying weasle bastards the MSM is. That’s why even though it is doing everything it can to prevent Kucinich, and Paul, from being heard, they are both winning online polls. The people are wising up.

Soldiers Who Spoke Against War in NY Times Killed in Iraq

Deaths of Soldiers ‘Brings It Home’ For ‘NYT’ Editorial Page Editor

Washington Post
Excerpt
NEW YORK The deaths in Iraq of Sgt. Omar Mora and Sgt. Yance Gray are hitting closer to The New York Times than most, according to Editorial Page Editor Andrew Rosenthal. That’s because the duo were among seven soldiers who penned a controversial Times column critical of some elements of the war just last month.

“It brings it home and it reminds you how distant most people are from this war,” said Rosenthal, who said the soldiers sent the column unsolicited to the paper seeking its publication. “It would be ludicrous to say this war has now touched us, but it has in a way. These are guys who had been more public.”

Mora and Gray, who died Monday in a vehicle accident in Western Baghdad, were among seven soldiers who co-wrote the column that ran in August and raised concerns about the operation there.

Among the column’s statements: “In short, we operate in a bewildering context of determined enemies and questionable allies, one where the balance of forces on the ground remains entirely unclear.”

The column sparked a strong reaction from Pentagon officials, who defended the U.S. operation in a statement, but stopped short of punishing the soldiers for speaking out.

HL’s Take
Oh really, did not punish them for speaking out. So I guess even death is not enough punishment for Republicans. Strange that these guys speak out, the Pentagon gets itself all in a later over it, and then a couple of days later the guys are dead. Don’t join the Army, if the enemy doesn’t get you, your own people will.

Republican Lying Whore Reporter Fired for False Obama Interview

Consultant Probed in Bogus Interview

Washington Post
Excerpt
A former consultant to ABC’s investigative unit admitted yesterday that he put his name on a purported interview with Barack Obama that he never conducted.

Alexis Debat, a former French defense official who now works at the Nixon Center, published the interview in the French magazine Politique Internationale. He said he had hired a freelance journalist to conduct the interview, in which the Democratic presidential candidate supposedly said that Iraq was “already a defeat for America” that has “wasted thousands of lives.” Debat said he had been unable to locate the intermediary, and the Obama campaign says no such interview took place.

ABC demanded Debat’s resignation in June after discovering that he did not have a PhD from the Sorbonne, as he claims on his resume.

HL’s Take
This clown works at the Nixon Center for Henry Kissinger. Ahh Republicans…No amount of lying, cheating, stealing, and killing is too much. No Mountain of hypocrisy too high to climb.

UC Law School Dean Fired for being a Liberal

Law school dean fired for liberal ‘political views.’

Editor & Publisher
Excerpt
Constitutional Scholar Edwin ChemerinskyAbout a week ago, the new law school at the University of California at Irvine hired Erwin Chemerinsky, a well-known constitutional scholar, as the school’s inaugural Dean. But yesterday, Michael V. Drake, Irvine’s chancellor, fired him, “saying that he had not been aware of how Chemerinsky’s political views would make him a target for criticism from conservatives.” Chemerinsky confirmed his firing to the Wall Street Journal today:

The chancellor “said he hadn’t expected that I would be such a target for conservatives, a lightning rod. It’s clear that significant opposition developed,” though the chancellor didn’t specify where it was coming from. […]

“Obviously I’m sad because it’s something I was excit[ed] about. I’m angry because I don’t believe anyone liberal or conservative should be denied a position like this because of political views.”

UPDATE: The LA Times notes that April 2005, Chemerinsky “was named one of ‘the top 20 legal thinkers in America’ by Legal Affairs magazine.”

HL’s Take
C’mon this is California for christ’s sake. UC Irvine is in Orange County, which is still a Republican bastion, although not as much as it was a few years ago. A lot of people down there still have “W” stickers on their cars. (hey who cares how much Bush screws up the country and how many people die, as long as we still have the place in Newport) Of course it’s OK that the head of Pepperdine’s Law School is none other then the man who wasted $70 Million investigating Bill Clinton’s zipper, and came away with nothing, Ken Starr. Yes that is a private school. I didn’t even know that Irvine had a law school. Tell you what though I would never hire a lawyer that went there. If you want to go to law school, or need to hire an attorney, get one from a real law school like UCLA

Republican Columnist George Will: The Surge is a Failure

Syndicated Columnists React to Iraq War Testimony on Capitol Hill

Editor & Publisher
Excerpt
NEW YORK The reaction of syndicated columnists to the Iraq War testimony of Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker has been mostly predictable along ideological lines. But not every conservative pundit has echoed the Bush administration’s stance.

For instance, George Will wrote: “Before Gen. David Petraeus’ report, and to give it a context of optimism, the president visited Iraq’s Anbar province to underscore the success of the surge in making some hitherto anarchic areas less so.”

The Washington Post Writers Group columnist added: “More significant, however, was that the president did not visit Baghdad. This underscored the fact that the surge has failed, as measured by the president’s and Petraeus’ standards of success.”

HL’s Take
Some of the other Republican columnists of course take a much more party line stance on the Surge that has killed more US soldiers, and innocent Iraqi’s then before the surge started.
One of them chastises Congress for not trusting the guy (Petraues) whom the confirmed unanimously. He’s got a point. Of course if The Democrats weren’t a bunch of scared pu$$ies on the take, they wouldn’t fall all over themselves to give Bush everything he wants, then they would not subject themselves to such criticism. They voted for the war, they voted to confirm Ashcroft, and Gonzalez. They continuously approve more money for the war, they approve the Patriot act. I could go on all day but you get the point

Time Magazine Acknowledges Ron Paul

Ron Paul for President 2.0?

Time
Excerpt
Ron Paul in time magazine
Some political watchers, including poll respondents, are already considering Paul an also-ran. But Internet data paints a different picture for the candidate. According to Hitwise, for the four weeks ending Sept. 8, 2007, the most searched on candidate was “Ron Paul” with 0.54% of searches driving traffic to the politics category. “Fred Thompson” follows closely behind with 0.50%, “Joe Biden” with 0.25%, “Barack Obama” with 0.23% and “Hillary Clinton” also with 0.23%……

Despite his success on the Web, the gap between Paul’s poll standing and online popularity highlights a bigger problem for the doctor from Texas. Can his wired supporters take a break from shout-outs, sending virtual drinks and writing on virtual walls to shut down their computers and go out and vote?

HLs Take
So the question is, would people who spend hours and hours of their time supporting Ron Paul? People who go online and promote him, because they know he is a candidate like none of the others, there is still a over a year to go until the election. So after spending the next year going to Paul Rallies, sending out emails, telling their friends, writing in blogs and all that. Will those people bother to get up off their asses for one hour in a year from now to go out and vote? Is that what you are asking? Uh yeah, I think they will…especially since if they don’t they will be stuck with Rudy McRomney as a Republican Presidential candidate.
The real question should have been: After these people all go out and vote for Ron Paul, will the votes really count, or will the big money power find a way to steal the third straight Presidential election?

It’s The Oil Stupid

Mike O'MccarthyWhere do the oil “bucks stop?” They stop with YOU the American People.
“There is not an oil company in the world that doesn‘t have its eye on Iraq.”
Forget about “the surge.” Forget about the success of Anbar province. Forget about the Clinton-Obama rhetoric. Forget about General Petraeus’ report to Congress. Forget about the lies of Bush and Cheney. They are all lies!

How many times must the US audience see and hear this before they stop killing themselves and the citizens of Iraq over a gallon of gas? It’s the oil stupid and the Corporate State of the United States of America’s foreign and military policy is being run by: Exxon Mobil - Standard Oil Company, Texaco, Gulf, and the UK giants Royal Dutch Shell and British Petroleum – HALLIBURTON under the direct management of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. The price paid to our “volunteer” army and the corporate mercenaries is being paid by YOUR tax dollars and the blood and limbs of Americans and Iraqis lives. This continuing savaging of the Middle East has a history. It is the reason for Israel’s existence; it is the reason for this war. This history is one that most US citizens are grossly ignorant of. There have been 7 Petroleum Wars to get the oil under Iraq - The latest is spilling the blood of US soldiers and Iraqi civilians record amounts. To keep it simple I quote from Oil Companies in Iraq: A Century of Rivalry and War By James A. Paul, Global Policy Forum November 2003 Conference in Berlin on Corporate Accountability – November 25-26, 2003:

Police Attack Peaceful Protesters as Bush Visits Sydney

Peaceful Sydney Anti-Bush, Anti-Iraq Shattered By Police Violence : “That’s The Way We Do Business Now”

The Orstrahyun
Police Removed Mandatory ID Badges Before Unleashing On Protesters

Of the more than 6000-8000 who marched, all but a few dozen protested peacefully, without violence or aggression. More than half of all protesters were women, hundreds of elderly people marched, joined by hundreds of families, with young children.

But the 2500 police deployed, backed by a full riot squad, a water cannon, backpacks full of pepper spray, dogs and snipers in a helicopter hovering above the crowd, were pumped for the long promised “worst riots ever seen in Sydney.” A promise made only by the police and state government ministers over the past few weeks.

Protesters were wrestled to the ground, put in headlocks, had their arms twisted up behind their backs, had knees rammed into their spines and, in a number of assaults by police, were punched in the back and neck with a flurry of hard blows while being held down. Few of those assaulted and beaten displayed any resistance at all…

An accountant, who crossed the street in the wrong place, was slammed onto the footpath and had his face rammed into the ground by at least six police officers. His young son stood nearby, clearly trembling in fear, as police wrestled the man who offered up no resistance, except to protect his glasses. He was held in a police cell for 22 hours and was denied contact with his lawyer and family members. Police didn’t return his glasses until after he was released from custody.

Under siege: what the surge really means in Baghdad

Uruknet
Excerpt
A city divided by high concrete walls, barbed wire and checkpoints; armoured columns moving through deserted evening streets lit by the glow of searchlights and emptied by official curfew and fear. This is Baghdad, seven months into the surge, and George Bush’s last throw of the dice in Iraq…

But for many Iraqis, the Americans have turned their land into a prison. The barriers, which have turned Baghdad into a series of ghettos, are meant to keep the bombers out, but they also keep residents penned in. People may feel safer inside their neighbourhoods, but are more wary of venturing outside them. A short journey across the city can take hours with roads blocked off and numerous checkpoints, discouraging people from visiting relations and friends and reinforcing the sense of isolation.

HLs Take
Sound familiar?…Well if you ever watched any movie that features Nazi Germany during WW2 (Schindlers List, The Pianist etc.) Then it should sound very familiar. This is exactly what Germany did to the Jews. Bush and Hitler, brothers in arms. Bush’s great uncle Adolf was a great inspiration to him. And some day, if Bush, the neocons, the republicans, and most democrats have their way, they will be doing it here to us as well.

Congress Sends a Shout-Out to Hip-Hop

Posted in Jennifer Ziemann's Blog, Main Blog (All Posts) on September 9th, 2007 8:32 pm by HL

By: Jennifer Lynne Ziemann

Tentatively scheduled to begin on Sept 25th, Congress will be holding a hearing titled From Imus to Industry: The Business of Stereotypes and Degradation. They will focus on the entertainment industry, which is interpreted to mean hip-hop’s misogynist lyrics and violent views. Chairman of the House sub-committee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection, Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill), will be spearheading the issue. He says the hip-hop culture is not the only industry they will be discussing. Well, if that is the case, I suggest they turn the spotlight on Congress.

You cannot stop the degradation of women when we live in a nation that believes women are of a lower caste. I have mentioned this time and time again: if a man commits an assault on a stranger it is considered a felony charge, if the assault is committed by him upon his significant other then it is a misdemeanor charge. Law after law, state after state this is the case. Congress must set the precedence that mandates that domestic violence is to be considered a felony, no matter if it is the first time the abuser is caught or the fourth time. Until this is done they have no right to attack any industry that is just following the misogynist standards that were set when this country was founded.

Furthermore, I believe we voted our new Congress in to bring home our troops, end the war, focus on peace-building initiatives, and direct our tax money to better help those in need at home such as the poor, and especially our women and children. We do not need some half-ass hearing about what type of music our citizens should be listening to.

As citizens of the United States of America we can always turn off our radio or televisions if we do not like what we are hearing. Unfortunately you cannot turn off the woman’s screams next door as her husband beats her, you cannot silence the homeless person’s cry for food, and you most certainly cannot halt the bloodshed of our soldiers a continent away

We elected our Congress to do these things.

Yesterday we looked at the campaign of the only Republican running who is not another Rudy McRomney clone. That is the candidacy of Ron Paul. I would love to see Paul get the Republican nomination. Today we are focusing on the guy I’d like to see beat Paul in the election. The Only candidate from either party who should be the next President. The Only democrat that voted consistently against the war, the only candidate that favors not for profit single payer health coverage. The Only candidate that wants to end Nafta, and WTO, the only candidate that is not afraid of impeaching Bush, and Cheney, the only candidate that is not bought and paid for by big corporations, and foreign Governments. America’s last hope for remaining America. Dennis Kucinich. This site has been endorsing Dennis for President since 2004, see for yourself why.

Dennis Kucinich Just Back From Syria Interview
Dennis spent labor day weekend in Syria, seeing for himself the devastion of 1.5 Million Iraqi refugees who were forced to free Bush’s war with just the clothes on their backs. Dennis interviewed by Tucker Carlson.

Dennis Kucinich: I cannot be Bought
When it comes to foriegn policy there is no difference between Hillary Clinton and George W. Bush.

Dennis Kucinich Strikes Again
Featuring Dennis getting 17,000 people at Soldier Field in Chicago riled up while Hilary, Edwards, and the rest stand there looking lame. No more Nafta, no more WTO, universal not for profit health care for everyone. And a President who isn’t fooled by a lying weasel like George W. Bush about something fairly serious like going to war.

Fox news held a Republican debate and once again Ron Paul ran away with it. The Republicans are starting to panic over Paul. It is clear they hate him, and now they know that he is the front runner amongst the people. Paul’s Anti-war rhetoric is making the GOP very nervous. Chris Wallace the host of the debate could not have shown his contempt of Paul more. An actual queation. “So Mr. Paul, you are saying we should take our marching orders from Al Qaeda?” Check out some of Paul’s answers at the debate

Michael O’McCarthy: End Funding of Wars

Posted in Michael O'McCarthy's Blog, Main Blog (All Posts) on September 5th, 2007 7:19 am by HL

by Michael O’McCarthy

STOP THE WARS: CONGRESS MUST END THE FUNDING
A SIT-IN WITHIN THE HOUSE - FILIBUSTER IN THE SENATE

Mike O'MccarthyIts Pentagon budget time in Congress and its time for the members of the House and Senate who claim to represent the best interests of the people of the United States, who claim to oppose Bush’s military globalization policy to show up and put up. Failing to stop “the surge,” failing to pursue a cut-off of funds, and failing to proceed with impeachment, the Democrats have failed the American people who put them in the majority: they are dancing the dance of cowards.

Now is the time for those Congresspeople to sit-in within the House and filibuster in the Senate:
The reports are coming fast and furious: The Bush-Cheney Kriegmaschine is in full mode despite the overwhelming evidence that Bush-Cheney fabricated justification for the war and have violated both US and international law in its execution; despite a electoral sentiment that opposes the war; despite clear and present evidence that their war strategy for the occupation and “democratization” of Iraq is a failure; despite that ranking Pentagon military officers believe that the war is destroying the Army and the US’s ability to defend itself.

Their Kriegmaschine, by myriad accounts, is now preparing for a strike of war terror against Iran. Bush’s delusional obsession with as a God directed crusader the Middle East has hindered any ability that he may have once had to understand military strategy. His mission to Tehran is a continuance of his Mission to Baghdad. The optimum time for this religious zealot to attack Iran is over the Christmas and Hanukah holiday.

This is in the face that there is no evidence that Iran presents a clear and present danger to the US, nor that it is either more or less a danger to the stability of the Middle East than Israel, Syria, Saudi Arabia or Turkey, all who are active players in the unfolding, frightening dynamic of Middle East politics. This despite recent best scientific evidence that its nuclear program remains directed towards domestic civilian use; far less a military threat than the nuclear weapons state of Israel.

It is thus clear that unless some extraordinary event by leadership of the Congress takes place, the mass opposition needed to stop the Bush-Cheney Kriegmaschine will not take place and Bush-Cheney will be free to extend their bizarre scheme of “globalization” by a war against Iran.

The budget for funding the Pentagon (and the continuance of the war in Iraq and one for Iran) is due on October 1st. The Democrats in the US Congress have proven time and time again that they haven’t the courage to stop the funding of Bush’s military apparatus. Republicans are stuck in GOP support mode, despite that they know Bush’s adventure is a failure; the surge being the latest act of incompetence.

A new strategy is necessary: the activist citizens of the United States must demand that the Democratic leadership in the Congress and Senate of the United States immediately begin a sit-in within Congress and a filibuster in the Senate until funds for the war in Iraq are cut-off and the President and Vice President are forced to swear off on a war against Iran.

Bush Plans War on Iran

Bush Plans War on Iran
By Marjorie Cohn
September 2, 2007

The Sunday Times of London is reporting that the Pentagon has plans for three days of massive air strikes against 1,200 targets in Iran. Last week, Alexis Debat, director of terrorism and national security at the Nixon Center, told a meeting of The National Interest, a conservative foreign policy journal, that the military did not intend to carry out “pinprick strikes” against Iranian nuclear facilities. He said, “They’re about taking out the entire Iranian military.”

Bush has already set the wheels in motion. With Rovian timing, Alberto Gonzales’ resignation was sandwiched between two Bush screeds - one aimed at ensuring Congress scares up $50 billion more for the occupation of Iraq, the other designed to scare us into supporting war on Iran. As Gonzales rides off into the sunset, the significant questions are who will take his place and how that choice will facilitate Bush’s occupation of Iraq and attack on Iran.

One name that’s been floated for Bush’s third attorney general is Joe Lieberman, the “independent” senator from Connecticut. Lieberman, who advocates the use of military force against Iran, was the only person Bush quoted in his August 28 speech to the American Legion. Bush called Iran “the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism” and pledged to “confront Tehran’s murderous activities.”

Gonzales greased the Bush/Cheney wheels for torturing in violation of the Geneva Conventions, illegally spying on Americans, and purging disloyal Bushies.

Similarly, Lieberman would ensure the Justice Department mounts a vigorous defense of a war of aggression against Iran. And Bush would get a two-fer: Connecticut’s Republican governor would appoint a Republican to fill Lieberman’s seat, returning control of the Senate to the GOP. A Republican-controlled Senate would direct the agenda, thereby furthering the Bush/Cheney plan.

Lieberman is closely affiliated with American Israeli Public Affairs Committee. “AIPAC leverages its power by an alliance with the Christian Right, which has adopted a bizarre ideology of ‘Christian Zionism,’” according to University of Michigan professor Juan Cole. “It holds that the sooner the Palestinians are ethnically cleansed, the sooner Christ will come back. Without millions of these Christian Zionist allies,” Cole added, “AIPAC would be much less influential and effective.”

During the 2004 election, a 100% “AIPAC voting record” was Lieberman’s litmus test for an acceptable presidential candidate. As the House of Representatives was on the verge of passing a resolution that would’ve required Bush to consult Congress before attacking Iran, the AIPAC lobby stopped it in its tracks.

Bush’s WMD-hyping against Iran is déja vu in the run-up to Operation Iraqi Disaster, where he played loose and fast with the truth about Iraq’s alleged WMDs. His statement that a nuclear Iran could put the region “under the shadow of a nuclear holocaust” conjures up his images of a “mushroom cloud” in the hype-up to Iraq.

How inconvenient for Bush that the UN International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) just found Iran’s uranium enrichment program is operating well below capacity and is nowhere near producing significant amounts of nuclear fuel. The IAEA report says Iran “has been providing the agency with access to declared nuclear materials, and has provided the required nuclear material accountancy reports in connection with declared nuclear material and facilities.”

Iran and IAEA agreed on a plan with a step-by-step timetable of cooperation to settle unresolved issues. The agreement said there were “no other remaining issues and ambiguities regarding Iran’s past nuclear program and activities,” and characterized the accord as “a significant step forward.”

“This is the first time Iran is ready to discuss all the outstanding issues which triggered the crisis in confidence,” said IAEA director general Mohamed ElBaradei. “I’m clear at this stage you need to give Iran a chance to prove its stated goodwill. Sanctions alone, I know for sure, are not going to lead to a durable solution”

In 2003, when Dr. ElBaradei reported there was no evidence that Iraq was reconstituting its nuclear program, the White House was not pleased. And as Saddam Hussein became more cooperative with the weapons inspector, Bush became “infuriated,” according to Bob Woodward.

Bush’s vow, “We will confront this danger before it is too late,” is the Iran incarnation of his illegal preemptive war doctrine, which he inaugurated in Iraq. In a clear signal he is seeking regime change in Iran, Bush called for “an Iran whose government is accountable to its people, instead of leaders who promote terror and pursue the technology that could be used to develop nuclear weapons.”

Barnett Rubin reported on Global Affairs blog that one of the leading neo-conservative institutions has “instructions” from Dick Cheney’s office to “roll out a campaign for war with Iran in the week after Labor Day; it will be coordinated with the American Enterprise Institute, the Wall Street Journal, the Weekly Standard, Commentary, Fox, and the usual suspects. It will be heavy sustained assault on the airwaves, designed to knock public sentiment into a position from which a war can be maintained. Evidently they don’t think they’ll ever get majority support for this - they want something like 35-40 percent support, which in their book is ‘plenty.’”

Bush/Cheney created the White House Iraq Group (WHIG) to lead a propaganda campaign to bolster public support for war with Iraq. The White House decided to wait until after Labor Day of 2002 to kick off WHIG’s mission. Chief of staff Andrew Card explained, “From a marketing point of view, you don’t introduce new products in August.” Five years later, they’re marketing a new and even more dangerous product - war with Iran. British military historian Corelli Barnett says “an attack on Iran would effectively launch World War III.”

Our military spending has reached $1 billion every 2-1/2 days and we are borrowing $2-1/2 billion per day. Bush is mortgaging our children’s future security and wealth. We have lost more than 3,700 soldiers in Iraq and tens of thousands of Iraqis have died.

We have already seen how easily Congress caves in to AIPAC. It’s up to the people. As Noam Chomsky said, “The most effective barrier to a White House decision to launch a war [on Iran] is the kind of organized popular opposition that frightened the political-military leadership enough in 1968 that they were reluctant to send more troops to Vietnam.”
