“I thought they were Taliban, and we shouted at them to stop, but they came closer and they opened fire,” said Khan Mohammad, one of the policemen at the post. “I’m very angry. We are here to protect the Afghan government and help serve the Afghan government, but the Americans have come to kill us”….In Nangarhar province in March â€” the same province of Tuesday’s police shootings â€” 19 civilians were killed and 50 wounded by U.S. Marines Special Operations Forces who fired on civilians while speeding away from the site of a suicide bomb attack, casualties that sparked angry protests and denunciations of the U.S. presence there.

NEW YORK Meeting with the Wall Street Journal’s editorial board, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said that Lewis “Scooter” Libby, who promoted the invasion of Iraq, disclosed the name of a cover CIA agent then was convicted of four counts of perjury and obstruction of justice, had “served the country really well.” She hinted that a presidential pardon was in order.

Asked for her views on a pardon, Rice demurred but then came to the strong defense of Libby, stating that he should be treated “in accordance” with his public service. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison last week, convicted on four felony counts, despite letters of support from many highly-placed figures ranging from Henry Kissinger to Gen. Peter Pace.

British Plot to Supply Iran With Nuclear Material

A British company has been closed down after being caught in an apparent attempt to sell black-market weapons-grade uranium to Iran and Sudan, The Observer can reveal.
Anti-terrorist officers and MI6 are now investigating a wider British-based plot allegedly to supply Iran with material for use in a nuclear weapons programme. One person has already been charged with attempting to proliferate ‘weapons of mass destruction’.

During the 20-month investigation, which also involved MI5 and Customs and Excise, a group of Britons was tracked as they obtained weapons-grade uranium from the black market in Russia. Investigators believe it was intended for export to Sudan and on to Iran.
