Five House Races to Watch
In a must-read piece, CQ Politics examines the five most vulnerable House seats — all of which are currently held by Republicans.
- NY-13, in which Rep. Vito J. Fossella (R-NY) was forced to quit his re-election bid after admitting he had a daughter from an ongoing extramarital affair.
- IL-11, where Rep. Jerry Weller (R-IL) is retiring — and the GOP candidate nominated in the primary dropped out of the race a couple of weeks later.
- AZ-1, where Rep. Rick Renzi (R-AZ) announced his retirement not long before he was indicted on pending federal corruption charges.
- VA-11, where popular Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-VA) is retiring, and the GOP’s nominee to succeed him, a well-funded newcomer who pledges a vigorous campaign, nonetheless faces a very well-known local Democratic officeholder with a track record of electoral success.
- NY-25, where Rep. James T. Walsh (R-NY) is retiring; the Democrat who almost unseated him in 2006 never stopped running; and Republicans had recruiting problems that typified the struggles they have faced in many of their trouble races this year.

Romney Seen as Best Fit for McCain
Bloomberg says the prerequisites for Sen. John McCain’s running mate are clear: “a Washington outsider with solid economic credentials who isn’t associated with President George W. Bush, can fill the vice-presidential attack-dog role, help win Western and Midwestern states and cut into Democrat Barack Obama’s fundraising advantage.”
“One candidate fits the bill: former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.”

CNN Still Can’t Bring Itself to Say Palin’s Name
Last night on Election Center with Campbell Brown, a bunch of CNN talking heads discussed potential VP’s for John McCain. They mentioned about 12 names overall, and also threw in a couple nonsensical wildcards just for one. One person they didn’t mention? Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin.
It’s becoming embarrassing to the MSM to watch their avoidance of a VP candidate nearly every serious pundit and analyst considers to be one of the frontrunners, but one of the best choices for McCain. Bill Kristol of the New York Times and The Weekly Standard actually came out a short while ago and flat-out predicted that Palin would be McCain’s VP choice. But instead of even mentioning her name, CNN touted Joe Lieberman as the best option for McCain and one of their “experts” even claimed “the right would love it”. They must have been talking to the three Obamacons again (oh those ever elusive Obamacons…). This kind of crap reporting is why CNN is getting clobbered by Fox News.

How typical. I agree with previous commentors on this topic. It really appears as if the MSM is quite frightened of Gov. Palin. Let’s hope McCain makes the right choice.

If you’re a Republican, when in doubt, do the exact opposite of what the mainstream media is telling you to do. works every time.
