Most Don’t Expect Economy to Recover Soon
A new Gallup poll finds 75% of Americans think the U.S. economy is no better than a year ago, with 35% saying it is about the same and 42% saying it is worse.
Americans remain largely pessimistic, with 61% expecting economic conditions a year from now to be similar to now, or worse.
Most Expect Obama to Lose But He Still Leads
A new McClatchy-Marist poll finds that President Obama looks increasingly vulnerable in next year’s election, with 52% of voters believing he’ll lose to any Republican, 49% saying they’ll definitely vote against him and most potential Republican challengers gaining on him.
That said, none of the current GOP contenders beat Obama in hypothetical general election match ups. Obama leads Mitt Romney, 46% to 44%, tops Rick Perry, 50% to 41%, is ahead of Michele Bachmann, 53% to 40%.
Said pollster Lee Miringoff: “His saving grace right now has to do with the fact that the GOP field has not yet demonstrated the appeal to capitalize on his weaknesses.”
