WASHINGTON – This time there were no tortured explanations, no heels dug in, no long, slow drip of revelation or fight for redemption. Rep. Mark Foley R-Fla., just up and quit after his e-mails expressing undue interest in a 16-year-old male page were exposed to the nation. Less than six weeks from a tough election for Republicans who control an already ethically tainted Congress, the more common stick-it-out approach to scandal was cast aside.
“Resigning leaves your attackers nowhere to go,” said Eric Dezenhall, a crisis-management consultant. “If this had dragged on, it could have sucked Republicans into the vortex of scandal.”
H.L.s Take: Sounds to me like the Republicans suck themselves into the vortex of scandal all the time, and I do mean “Suck” Hey Cons when is the next family values lecture????

HL you mean to tell me that you haven’t figured out with your buddy Clinton that you guys should never jump to conclusions because it ends up biting you in the butt. No has charged him with anything that I have heard of other than being a littl estupid. Even your Democrat buddys have dropped this one. Maybe you should learn from them. If there was something to it they would be after him like flies on crap. But that is a big problem the Dem’s and Lib’s have it’s do what I say not what I do. Tell you what HL why don’t you tell me what the LIB’S stand for because I know what the Lib movement stands for and what I have heard from you is no where near what they stand for. So far all I have seen here is someone who is doing nothing but complaining about what the Con’s are doing. You tell me what should the Dem’s do. What are their beliefs. I can tell you what mine are and they are pretty close to what the Con’s are so please tell me what you believe in and what the Dem’s believe in.
Here ya go I’ll help ya. I believe that there should be less government, less social help programs funded by the government and my money unless I agree to them, the government should only be aloud to do the job that the Constatution says that it is to do and nothing more, the freedom to do any job and get any education that I want and to make as much money as I want even if it is more than the next guy. You want me to keep going. I don’t believe in the liberal thinking that the Wealth should be devided evenly. I earned it not some dead beat who doesn’t want to do crap. Everyone in this country has the right to better themselves and others have more chances than others, ie affermative action and other programs give minoritys more chances than I have. Do i complain about it no because if I want my company to keep growing than complaining about someone else is going to make it grow me working at it is what makes it grow. You want to complain about the government taking about a third of your check that’s your right do I complain about it no do I like paying the government 15% of my paycheck to fund programs for people that are to lazy to get a job or better their lives and think that socity owes them, no. But you Lib’s and Dem’s seem to think that WE should and than complain about it latter. You complain about the government giving tax cuts to the RICH and yet you are so ignorant that you can even figure out basic economics. First off the top 10% of the richest people in this country pay 50% fo the Federal tax, you can look that up. So basic economics teaches you that if the people that have the most money aren’t paying as much in taxes they will add more jobs, raise pay, buy more of everything, supplies, property, equipment, etc.
If I didn’t pay as much taxes I would hire more people and get more equipment and I am no were near a large company. So you keep thinking that everyone should have the same in money, property, etc. That is not how this country was started and it not how it will die. Inacting your ideas is how it will die because whether you want to admit it or not your ideas are defined as SOCIAL, ie Russia, China and every ather country like them and I wont live like that.
You want to delete this it’s your web site. But I will tell you this you do and you will afirm everything that I believe in Lib’s and that is that they don’t want to hear the other side and the only side that counts is theirs and everything else is a lie. Sad this is it’s not true. BOTH sides lie what you need to do is find the truth rather than taking what your side says as truth.
You have proven that you belive what your side says in alot of the comments you have posted the problem is that you haven’t looked at the true source for your self. I read alot of the 9/11 commissions report and it didn’t start with Clinton. Bin Laden started when Reagan was in but he declared war basically againest us went Clinton was in office and there WAS NOT a report given to Clinton at the end of his term that he turned over to the Bush Admin. That is straight out of the report. The internet is a great thing. Just like finding out what S3930 the detainee bill has in it. How it was written word for word. You want to know the truth than go look for it quit being a puppy and following your master just because he says.

True Foley has not been charged with anything yet. So why did he leave if he did nothing other then being a littl estupid (as you say) He was a shoo in for re-election, so why did he leave????

I would ask him if I could, but he’s gone now. He didn’t stand up and fight, he ran.
Innocent until proven guilty? Tell that to Jose Padilla, tell that to the guys who were tortured at guantanamo for 5 years, then released without charges. Of course none of them were proven guilty because they never had trials. So I guess that means that here in America we torture the innocent.

You want to compare people that are NOT US citizens to US citizens and give them the rights of US citizens? I don’t thinks so. You want to compare the people at guantanamo to other US citizens ok what about news people in Vietnam they were innocent and had nothing to do with the war but they were tortured. What about Bin Laden saying on ABC he didn’t care if the people that he had were civilian or military. What about the fact that according to the Geneva Convention they aren’t intitled to a trial. I know you are going to say that the Supreme Court says they have that right. Well guess what the Supreme Court over stepped its bounds again. You want to give people who are not US citizens the same rights that we have and your wrong. Try going to Russia or China or any other conutry and you see if you have the same rights as their citizens have. Here’s one for you go to Germany and when you get off the plane start talking about Nazi’s and see how long you stay in Germany, you will be put on the very next plane leaving you wont even leave the airport is that far????? All you did was say a single word and the German’s made you leave without being able to visit their country. Until you Lib’s get it through your head that they don’t like us they want us DEAD nothing else just DEAD we will have this problem to deal with.

How about Padilla, he is an American Citizen, I only used Guantanamo because they are people everyone has heard of, Innocent until proven guilty is hardly whats going on here anymore. Nice of you Republican’ts to try and to drag the Democrats into a completely Republican’t scandal being covered up by a completely Republican’t controlled government. It’s all about the lying, right? Just like it was with the Clenis hunt. So when do we start investigating all of the corrupt Republican’ts that have been lying to us since well before they stole the White House in 2000? Oh, that’s right – we had men with morals and conscience in government back before Republican’ts controlled everything, and they actually engaged in that whole oversight thing.
Funny how the supposed party of morals and values doesn’t feel like anyone should question Republican’t morals and values. Especially when Republican’ts are caught lacking values and being immoral.

Just so everyne knows Buzz’s first post included a long list of every crime every democrat was ever accused of. Most of them were never convicted of anything (a few were) mostly low rankers from the 70s and 80s, but since I never claimed Democrats were perfect, I edited it.
Of course Clinton was never convicted of anything. Kennedy screwed up by getting drunk and going for a ride. My focus is on what is going on right now, and getting republicans out of office becuase I think they are worse then Democrats. Of course if you read this site I get on Democrats all the time too. I did today as a matter of fact. but old Buzz here would have you believe the opposite and I won’t have it.

Not true HL. I just think you ride the republicans a little harder. That is your choice though…..I choose to ride both parties for the scams that they are. It seemed the cut and paste list was a bit longer for the republicans though.
My whole point into this was elected officials using and abusing the powers given them. They don’t have to play buy OUR rules and I think it’s crap!!!!!

I guess I’ll state this on as many websites as I can:
I hate Foley, but Foley is NOT a pedophile.
There is NO physical difference age-wise between a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old. Really, there is NOT. We see it all the time, where a 16-year-old girl can easily lie about her age and say that she’s 18 years old or 19 years old, and you really cannot tell the difference between the two, and that’s because a 16-year-old has that of an adult-like body. Pedophiles are interested in that of the child-like body. A 12-year-old girl, for instance, could never pass as an 18-year-old physically-wise, and that’s because a 12-year-old girl is that of a child-like body. Pedophiles sexually like children of ages 12 and under or a person who has just hit puberty…age 13, but not individuals past that who bare an obvious resemblance to adult-hood, like a 16-year-old, or a 17-year-old would. (Although some opportunist pedophiles also go for adults.)
There may be a world of difference between a 16-year-old and a 22-year-old mentally, but not physically-wise. I mean, really, I see on a daily basis, when I go to clubs, no physical difference when it comes to the age of young women who are 23 (as I see them in clubs or in business meetings) and 17-19 year olds that I see elsewhere. A lot of women from ages 20 to 23 still look like teenagers, which is why a store clerk will hassle a 22-year-old about showing their ID more so than a 32-year-old. It’s also why 22-years-olds can easily portray 16-year-olds, or 17-year-olds in television shows and films. Watching the MTV show called NEXT is a great example of how 22-year-olds easily look like 18-year-olds.
Foley is not mentally ill for being sexually attracted to a 16-year-old or 17-year-old. If he were, then that would mean that most men who are sexually attracted to a 17-year-old who they think is 18 years old, is mentally ill. There’s a huge difference from being sexually attracted to that of a child-like body and that of an adult-like body (as mid-to-late teenagers are that of an adult-like body, which is why they don’t look any different age-wise from most young adults…ages 18-23). It’s also why the DSM IV does not have ephebophilia (sexual attraction to a mid-to-late teenager) as a diagnostic category…because most men and women are ephebohiles, as in 18-year-olds are teenagers as well, and 16-year-olds can easily look 18.
Foley would be a statutory rapist in some places for engaging in sex with 16-years-olds or 17-year-olds, but he has NO mental disorder, like pedophiles have a mental disorder…just as a 19-year-old who has sex with his 17-year-old girlfriend has NO mental disorder. Foley instead has a problem with obeying the law, and what he did by sexually coming onto people who are not legal adults is against THE LAW. I hate what his scandal has done, and I’m an Independent (when it comes to either being a Republican or a Democrat). He has created mass hysteria with people calling him a pedophile when he clearly is not. This type of thing creates craziness because it would almost be like saying a 18-year-old who has sex with his 16-year-old girlfriend is a pedophile, when that 18-year-old surely is not. Mark Foley is a sexual predator in the sense that he thought he could get sex a lot easier from a 16-year-old than he could from a legal adult, which is also how men are who are caught on Dateline NBC’s “To Catch A Predator”…who think teenagers are easier to trick into having sex. Dateline NBC never labels it as “To Catch A Pedophile”…because they know there’s a difference, and the words sexual predator can apply to four different categories…which are pedophile…statutory rapist, opportunist about to become statutory rapist, and rapist in the traditional sense as of forcing a person to have sex against their will.
Mark Foley would be Number 3…although the age of sexual consent is age 16 in Washington DC…. Also, I cannot believe that some of us out here are acting as though our 16-year-olds don’t know how to defend themselves, or to say no to someone they don’t want to have sex with. Our 16-year-olds are not in the mindset of 6-year-olds, and with us treating them like they are, how can we possibly expect them to be called adults at age 18? Especially our 17-year-olds who are one year away from being age 18, goodness. 16 and 17-year-olds are just as physically strong as 18-year-olds. I see 16-year-old football players who are just as physically strong as 18-year-old football players all the time, mentally, they are as well. My 16-year-old brother even asked why the news was acting as if he was a mindless or helpless 5-year-old. He’s outraged at that notion.
