Navy sifts Blue Angels wreck for clues

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Investigators looked through wreckage Sunday to determine what caused a Navy Blue Angel jet to crash during a maneuver, while the military identified the fallen pilot as a 32-year-old who was performing in one of his first air shows with the team.
At Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort in South Carolina, the site of Saturday’s crash, a somber crowd watched Sunday as six jets flew overhead in formation. Smoke streamed behind one of the jets as it peeled away from the others to complete the “missing man formation,” the traditional salute for a lost military aviator.
“The spirit of the pilot is in the arms of a loving God,” said Rob Reider, a minister who was the announcer for the air show.
The crash happened as the team was performing its final maneuver Saturday afternoon during the air show. The team’s six pilots were joining from behind the crowd of thousands to form a triangle shape known as a delta, but Davis’ jet did not join the formation.
Moments later, his jet crashed just outside Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, hitting homes in a neighborhood about 35 miles northwest of Hilton Head Island, S.C. Debris — some of it on fire — rained on homes. Eight people on the ground were injured, and some homes were damaged
The last fatal Blue Angel crash was in 1999, when a pilot and crewmate died while practicing for air shows with the five other Blue Angels jets at a base in Georgia. Saturday’s crash was the 26th fatality in the team’s 60-year history

So what is the story with this BS. These guys fly in formation inches apart to try to look cool. Why? Everytime I go to a Football game now you get the 4 planes doing a “flyover” during the national anthem. Everytime I say “what is the purpose of that?” to let everyone know that we live in a militaristic country run by a war mongering madman. Whenever I saw that I said to myself “one of these days those idiots are going to crash into each other, hopefully not over a stadium full of people. Turns out 26 pilots have been killed. That means 26 multi-million dollar aircraft have also been destroyed. Thats coming out of our pockets people. We pay for that useless spectacle. Not to mention the jet fuel we also have to pay for. It’s time this garbage was put to a stop.

So than we should stop playing the National Anthem as well than HL. Do you even know what the Fly Over represents? Because making that statement shows that you don’t give a shit about this country. You want to bitch about the amount of fuel that they use and how much money that each plane costs and you have no clue as to what it stands for that is clear.
You want to bitch about 26 planes that have crashed in 60 years that’s it. Not to mention that the first planes they used didn’t cost millions of dollars. Why do they fly that close because they are the BEST OF THE BEST and the requirements to get in are unreal. You want to bitch about that than we should end the Top Gun program to because they destroy million dollar planes.
You want to bitch about the money and you have no clue that that Fly By Honors the people that have died for this country. You COMMUNIST PRICK. Take your sorry worthless ass back to France or Canada or any other Bleeding heart country were you belong and get the F**K OUT OF MINE.

Worst President in History?
(The following appeared in the Durham, NC local paper as a letter to the editor.

Liberals claim President Bush shouldn’t have started this war.
They complain about his prosecution of it.
One liberal recently claimed Bush was the worst president in U.S. history.
Let’s clear up one point: President Bush didn’t start the war on terror.
Try to remember, it was started by terrorists BEFORE 9/11.
Let’s look at the “worst” president and mismanagement claims.
FDR led us into World War II.
Germany never attacked us: Japan did.
From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.
Truman finished that war and started one in Korea.
North Korea never attacked us.
From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,333 per year.
John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962.
Vietnam never attacked us.
Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire.
From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average! e of 5,800 per year.
Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent.
Bosnia never attacked us.
He was offered Osama bin Laden’s head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing.
Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.
Over 2,900 lives lost on 9/11.
In the two years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Lybia, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.
We lost 600 soldiers, an average of 300 a year.
Bush did all this abroad while not allowing another terrorist attack at home.
Worst president in history? Come on!
The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but…
It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound.
That was a 51 day operation.
We’ve been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.
It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Teddy Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.
It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!

Once again Bill distorts the facts to his liking.
Japan, Germany and Italy each declared war on the United States before the United States declared war on them respectively. FDR led us through the war. He didn’t start any of it.
The Korean war was started by an invasion from North Korea into South Korea. The US response was part of a UN coalition, UN resolution 82, but I guess it’s not a coalition if the Bushies aren’t in charge according to Bill. The GI’s and Marines were ready to come home that winter just before the Chinese launched a surprise attack, which would then add another two and a half years of war. Not according to Bill…Truman the lib started it.
I could easily continue using Wikipedia and history books from my collection to continue pointing out FACTS to Bill but what’s the use? He obviously doesn’t read much. He’d rather ignore facts and call them lib bias, then make up his own history in a sad attempt to hide his intellectual laziness. He’s so lazy he just cuts and pastes someone else’s distortions and passes it on without even verifying its contents. Bill can’t imagine a world where newspapers distort the truth for Bush, and that’s what political masterminds like Karl Rove are counting on.
Who has forgotten the day when the general public knew more about the Superdome by watching CNN and Fox News than the President of the United States and his creation, the color-happy Dept of Homeland Security? Or the day when Bush first flew over 500 miles of floodland and death, but continued on to the White House? Who knows anyone else who, in this productive day and age, has racked up over 400 days of vacation in the last 6 years, let alone a wartime president as such?

I dont think you really like football H.L. Have you ever played it? I played strong safty in high school. I could cover the flat, or come up a stick a sh*t talking running back trying to run for a first down. Football is part chess and part military movements. When I tackled someone I tried to kill them. You cant play the game if you dont think like that!

my brother was a navy pilot. he was very proud of what he was able to do. he also died of cancer while he served, but never complained. he was honered to be able to commit. the blue angels are the elite of the elite. i agree that the people in charge are complete *******’s but the young men and women that give more than most of us, desire our thanks.

I got no problem with that. If I meet any iraq vets coming home. I would be glad to buy them a beer, and talk politics. I bet most of them would say what a disaster Bush and the war are.

I won’t even respond to that idiotic first post. Yeah, there are many things wrong with the way we conduct ourselves worldwide and I’m not a fan of Bush or his doctrine. However, the Blue Angels are a hugh brite spot of what is excellent about what some of our people can achieve both in personal perfection but also with American technology. They are the means of showing us the military is there to protect us in both peace and at war. The Angels is a transparent representation of that. I think the Blue Angels are fantastic and I feel real bad about the pilot who died recently. I feel like I have grown up with them and I recall the first time I saw them they were flying A4 Skyhawks.
