Foley resigned after his sex scandal. Clinton lied and denied about his. Wether it is democrats that try to cover what they are by becoming republicans. Or wether it is democrats that try to cover what they are by pointing in the camaras and lying to the faces of the American people. It seems as though democrats are constantly trying to COVER up what they really are. This will all back fire on them! The democrats are attacking gays, one of their core voting blocks. So some gays might just stay home this Nov election. The democrats always find a way to loose dont they H.L.? Taxes, National Security, Guns, missile defense. Then add attacking their own voting block into the mix. Democrats make being a republican fun. Because its so easy to beat democrats. They have a matrix style life line dependant upon polls. Poll power. The wetfingercrats…….ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ……Buck out!!!

I’m going to start this with a sales pitch: you need to buy this film. No, really. Not because Greg Palast receives second billing but because you must see this film.

American Blackout is the kind of documentary that only comes along every few years. It’s the sort of film that changes things — changes how you think. If there was any justice in this world this film would receive the same buzz and box office that anything that Michael Moore releases gets. Greg Palast told me the film “blew him away” — this from a man who is almost always underwhelmed by documentaries, especially ones about his field of expertise.

When delving into the voter issue, the media distracts you with all the things it loves to talk about. But you need to forget the hanging chads and forget the malfunctioning machines. They’re just a sideshow to the real story. The real story is a lot less sexy, dealing with road blocks, purged voters, ‘misplaced’ voting machines, uncounted ballots and long lines. This is the Civil Rights Movement all over again but this time there are no great monsters like Bull Connor. The lynchings today are electronic and political… and the freedom riders nowhere to be found.

American Blackout, directed by Guerrilla News Network’s Ian Inaba uses a stunning mix of never before seen archive and firsthand interviews. Inaba knows how to make otherwise dull C-Span clips look like something completely new and interesting. He does this by split-screen and zooming so you know who you’re supposed to be looking at — Katherine Harris, Jeb Bush, ChoicePoint representatives. You see them lying to a Civil Rights panel, you see them sweat when questioned by Congresswoman McKinney. All I can say is that I am stunned that I’ve never seen this technique used before — it keeps you interested, on your toes and wanting for more. Yes, you will be wanting to see more of this documentary, these 90 minutes fly past quickly. So do take notes — there will be a test afterwards — the 2006 election.

Among the great footage in this documentary is a pan shot of lines of people waiting to vote — I saw this once before, when I was 13 and apartheid came to an end. South Africa held its first free election and Black voters could be seen in lines that went on for miles. But this is America, we are not a developing democracy and should long have emerged from the dark ages of electoral segregation.

The story of Cynthia McKinney that sews the running thread through the film, is uglier than even I knew. Many only familiar with the Congresswoman’s press coverage will be aghast at just how distorted a picture the media has fed us.
It literally defies belief.

Here we see her cross-examining Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld with such surgical precision and grasp of her brief that Rumsfeld is left stammering and ashen-faced. It makes us wonder what kind of country we might have right now if more had put this administration under such factual scrutiny. American Blackout lays out exactly why she has been so relentlessly hounded. Every one of her speeches brings to mind the hoarse pleas of Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, a force to be reckoned with. (In the DVD extras you can watch “Capitol Policeman Speaks Out” and see why she “lost it” back in March 2006.)

Inaba’s film is intense yet easy to grasp for even the most non-political among us.

And for those who can’t sit in one place for too long, the DVD comes with a shortened version which still gets the point across in under 20 minutes.

Since I started with a sales pitch it only seems right to end with one: Remember when in the days after 9/11 our president told us to go out and shop? Do the patriotic thing and buy this DVD. In fact I would buy several: you are going to want to pass this one around your friends and chances are you’re not going to get it back.

Billboard Democracy Blocked Clear Channel shuts down ProjectUSA; Fears angering congressman

Once again, a multinational corporation has shut down a ProjectUSA effort to participate in our democracy.

ProjectUSAâ€™s planned billboard campaign in Iowa has been brought to a screeching halt by the Des Moines division of Clear Channel Outdoor. The billboards, which would have informed voters in Iowa’s 3rd congressional district about their representative’s immigration voting record, were nixed by Clear Channelâ€”an outdoor advertising presence in 51 countries world-wide, and the only company offering outdoor advertising availability in Des Moines.

Even though we advertised the same message in the same district with the same company two years ago (both the Republic and Clear Channel survived…as did Boswell, thanks to this ninny) the division’s new president, Tim Jameson, declined this year’s copy for fear of angering Rep. Boswell.

Here are the three slogans we submitted (opens pop-up).

Are the slogans misleading? Are they inflammatory? Do they violate community standards? Do the billboards advocate violence or the overthrow of the government? Are they pornographic? Are they beating the drums for pre-emptive war? Do they encourage the slaughter of Iowa’s firstborn?

No, the billboard slogans are accurate statements concerning the immigration voting record of a member of Congressâ€”information anyone with Internet access, and enough civic-mindedness to care, could verify in a few minutes.

Did we violate any company policy with our slogans? Read Clear Channel’s Code of Advertising Ethics, and judge for yourself.

On the Clear Channel website we found an employee guide in which employees are promised that, out side of work, they are free to support any candidate or issue they please.

In other words, it’s likely we received no explanation when our billboards were nixed because there is none.

It’s so frustrating. Here is a member of Congress who has never voted against an amnesty for illegal aliens even though polls show Iowans overwhelmingly opposed to them. His votes in Congress are severely at odds with his constituents’ wishes on an issue that is irreversibly remaking the nation in radical and completely unpredictable ways.

But, when Americans go to the polls in November, it’s likely the voters in the 3rd congressional district in Iowa will not know how bad their representative is on immigration.

It doesn’t help that the major newspaper in the area, the Des Moines Register, is owned by the Gannett corporation.The people in Des Moines will probably be even less-informed on substantive issues like immigration than Americans in generalâ€”and the Des Moines Register has been particularly awful on immigration, even by Gannett standards.

Now Clear Channel Outdoor has taken it upon itself to prevent Iowans from seeing information that Tim Jameson believes they shouldn’tâ€”preventing us from erecting a simple billboard conveying a simple fact about Boswell’s position on immigration. Even the few thousand dollars we were going to spendâ€”a tiny drop in the sea of corporate money flooding through our political systemâ€”was too much for the Clear Channel Outdoor corporation.

But they support diversity! And the Hispanic Chamber. And the Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies. And so on.

Here’s a story that could mushroom, should Accenture handle the matter improperly (from CNET): Technology services giant Accenture said Friday that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission plans an informal investigation of an incident involving the company. In a public filing, Accenture said the probe concerns “an incident of possible noncompliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and/or with Accenture’s internal controls in connection with certain of Accenture’s operations in the Middle East.” This may prove to be nothing, or it may show a lack of organizational learning within the company. Accenture, once known as Andersen Consulting, has a long history of poor judgment. Most recently, many of us are probably aware of Andersen’s role in the collapse of Enron: when Andersen’s auditors tried to give a correct assessment and set of recommendations to Enron for public knowledge, Enron was able to convince Andersen’s senior partners to overrule the auditors’ advice. Andersen’s partners, in complying with Enron’s request for a favorable audit, compromised the integrity of the company, leaving the rest for history. Those with a longer-term memory, however, may remember Andersen’s role in the collapse of DeLorean. When Andersen auditors discovered that DeLorean was charging many personal expenses to the company, they accepted the CEO’s explanations of the expenses rather than expose them. DeLorean collapsed, the British government sued Andersen for vouching for DeLorean and Andersen settled out of court. But that’s not all. The Andersen representative in charge of the DeLorean account got promoted and became the head of Andersen’s U.S. audit division in 1987. In 1989 he became the head of Andersen’s worldwide audit and tax practice. These promotions sent a signal to the company’s employees: selling accounts for short-term profits mattered more than producing auditing reports with integrity. Similar patterns appeared when Andersen’s audits failed to uncover problems in other companies before Enron. These companies included Lincoln Savings and Loan, which collapsed in 1992, and Waste Management Inc., which encountered allegations of fraud in 1999. Now that Andersen’s consulting business (now known as Accenture) split away from the auditing firm, the CNET story now makes me wonder whether the change really made any difference. Or, is it really the case that the company’s split-up was just a disingenuous attempt to give the appearance of a newfound integrity?
