Iraq: Two US troops die, four British soldiers wounded

Excerpt:
Fighters in Iraq shot down a U.S. military helicopter during fighting south of Baghdad, killing two soldiers, the U.S. command said Monday. The attack occurred Sunday during fighting in Youssifiyah, 12 miles south of the Iraqi capital, the military said in a brief statement, cited by the AP.

H.L.s Take: As Eddie Vedder asked. Why aren't Demcorats leading an anti-war movement? Are they waiting for a shift in the polls???

Washington Post
Bush Set To Send Guard to Border

President Bush tried to ease the worries of his Mexican counterpart yesterday as he prepared for a nationally televised address tonight unveiling a plan to send thousands of National Guard troops to help seal the nation's southern border against illegal immigrants.
Mexican President Vicente Fox called to express concern over the prospect of militarization of the border, and Bush reassured him that it would be only a temporary measure to bolster overwhelmed Border Patrol agents, the White House said.

H.L.s Take: In a sign of true desperation, Bush tries to revive his rating by reaching out to the only people who still approve of him, (how that will help his ratings I don't know) Southern Yahoo's who are afraid that The Mexicans will come in and Invade their all white towns. Forget George, not going to work.

While we're unable to give a definitive answer to those who ask why so many of these Election Officials seem to stand by their vendors, we might suggest it most likely has to do with a) Most of these officials have been wined, dined and wooed by the Voting Machine company reps, and in the process told that anybody who suggests these machines are enormously flawed are little more than kooks, luddites and/or conspiracy theorists

Daily Kos
Time Magazine Doing Everything Possible To Help Bush's Ratings.

Excerpt:
The President's approval ratings are at a shocking low 29%, a number Stephen Colbert joking referred to as "backwash". Yet it seems that no all-time low is low enough to dampen the hopes of some in the media that the President will rebound and become Mr. Popular again. Take, for example, this ridiculous speculation from TIME:

There was a time -- say, four years and nine months ago -- when news that the government has been gathering up phone records might have the makings of a scandal, or even a constitutional crisis. But while there have been protests from civil libertarians and some criticism on Capitol Hill, early indications suggest the disclosures could actually give a political boost to a president who hasn't had many of those lately.

H.L.s Take: No amount of Whoring is too much for Time, and the MSM

Hagel on Bush Immigration Plan: ‘That’s Not The Role of Our National Guard’

Appearing on ABC’s This Week, Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) sharply criticized President Bush’s proposal, expected to be announced Monday, of sending thousands of National Guard troops to police the southern U.S. border. Hagel said flatly, “that’s not the role of our national guard.” He added that “we’ve got National Guard members in their second, third and fourth tours in Iraq” and “stretched our military as thin as we have ever seen in modern times.”

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) has also spoken out against the plan.

Mel Gibson inspired by 'fear-mongering' Bush.

Gibson reveals he used present day American politics as an inspiration, claiming the government callously plays on the nation's insecurities to maintain power.
He tells British film magazine Hotdog, "The fear-mongering we depict in the film reminds me of President Bush and his guys".
