Democrat wins signal trouble for Bush

Excerpt:
The loss in Virginia was a personal setback for Bush, who put his declining political capital on the line with an election-eve visit on behalf of Republican former attorney general Jerry Kilgore -- only to see him soundly defeated by Democratic Lt. Gov. Tim Kaine.

H.L.s Take: Looks like a near clean sweep for Democrats and Progressive causes and issues. Of course Bloomberg in NY is an exception, I don't understand what is up with my bros back in NYC voting for that guy. Otherwise the Crack in the Bush damn just got bigger.

Bloomberg News
Schwarzenegger's Entire Agenda Is Rejected by California Voters

Excerpt:
The election is a victory for Democrats and union workers from nurses to firefighters who worked to quash what they said was a Republican power grab. Opponents said Schwarzenegger's defeat weakens a governor who won office in 2003 and prevailed in two votes on initiatives last year, only to see his standing with voters drop as he heads into re-election.

H.L.s Take: Hey Ahhnolld, its all over now, why don't you just give Grey Davis a call, tell him it was all a mistake, and start working on Terminator 4.

Oil Company Execs Defend Huge Profits

Excerpt:
Lee Raymond, chairman of Exxon Mobil Corp., said he recognizes that high gasoline prices "have put a strain on Americans' household budgets" but he defended his company's huge profits, saying petroleum earnings "go up and down" from year to year.
ExxonMobil, the worlds' largest publicly trade oil company, earned nearly $10 billion in the third quarter. Raymond was joined at the witness table by the chief executives of Chevron Corp., ConocoPhillips, BPAmerica Inc., and Shell Oil Company.
Together the companies earned more than $25 billion in profits in the July-September quarter as the price of crude oil hit $70 a barrel and gasoline surged to record levels

H.L.s Take: Yes the profits of the oil industry go up and down, one quarter they make $25 Billion in profit, and the next they only make a paltry $20 billion in profit, how can they feed there families on that. They might as well just go on welfare, and food stamps if they are only going to make 20 bil. But hey, the holidays are coming, so they can jack the prices back up for people who want to take a trip to visit some relatives, and soon there profits will be back up again. Thank God.

Congress May Curb Some Patriot Act Powers

Excerpt:
WASHINGTON - Congress is moving to curb some of the police powers it gave the Bush administration after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, including imposing new restrictions on the FBI's access to private phone and financial records.

H.L.s Take: Dear Congress, gee guys you think its safe to go against Bush yet. I mean he is the strongest, most powerful leader ever. If you go against him the 20% of people who still support him might get angry. I got a better idea regarding the Patriot Act. Scrap the whole thing.

White House Staff Begins Ethics Classes War must be a local issue by Jimmy Breslin

Excerpt:
The church was empty at dusk. You stood in the stillness and looked at the place, right there on the side of the altar, where Michael Bloomberg spoke over the casket of a fallen aristocrat of the city, Riayan A. Tejeda, Marine, dead in Iraq at age 26.
Bloomberg pronounced, "He died to keep the weapons of mass destruction out of the hands of ..."
You heard no more.

H.L.s Take: Jimmy Brelin is the best anti war writer out there right now, be sure to read this entire story.

Willie Horton's Swift Boat Crashes In Virginia

Excerpt:
Republican Jerry Kilgore's defeat in Virginia is not only a reflection of voter disillusionment with George W. Bush, who swooped in at the eleventh hour for a rally with the gubernatorial hopeful, it marks a stunning repudiation of the GOP's vaunted attack machine. Throughout the campaign, Kilgore avoided the issues Virginians cared about most -- transportation and education -- homing in instead on the character of his opponent, Tim Kaine.
This time-tested Republican strategy proved to be a grave miscalculation.
Kilgore hired veteran Republican adman Scott Howell to spearhead his assault on Kaine's character. As a disciple of Lee Atwater, who masterminded the notorious Willie Horton ads that destroyed Michael Dukakis' 1988 presidential campaign, and as the former political director for Karl Rove and Company, Howell learned the dark arts from two of its masters.

Bill Grigsby: A Culture Of Lies

Excerpt:
But if the public had known what White House was planning: handing over public assets to its private benefactors, concentrating wealth and power to secure long-term partisan advantage, and mortgaging the country’s fiscal future and civil liberties to pull it off—we would have long ago seen angry torch-wielding mobs storming the castle. Hence the deception. After all, it’s a neocon:

H.L.s Take: and while they are storming the castle, don't forget to go in and grab all the money that they have been stealing from all of us the whole time. They should be made to pay back every penny, if they have to pump gas at a filling station in Wyoming in the winter to earn it.

The Nation
Swift Boat Attack on Bernie Sanders

Excerpt:
a WCAX-TV/Research 2000 poll, released last week, found the congressman to be leading the likely Republican nominee, millionaire Rich Tarrant, by a margin of 64 percent to 16 percent of Vermonters who were surveyed.
Those numbers will not come as much of a surprise to anyone who has spent time in Vermont, where Sanders' three decades of political independence and straight-talk about economic issues have earned him the admiration even of those who do not always agree with his progressive populism. But Sanders' strong position is a source of frustration for inside-the-Beltway Republican operatives and their network of henchmen.
Aside from impending indictments, few things frighten the political hacks who run the White House more than the thought of Sanders,

H.L.s Take: This guy Sanders is in the mold of George Galloway from England, he'll get up on the floor of Congress and yell out: "Bush is a lying murdering war profiteer" and the rest of the House and Senate as well as the press will have to take notice. I really want this guy to win.

THE DARK HEART OF DICK CHENEY

Excerpt:
WASHINGTON - Congress is moving to curb some of the police powers it gave the Bush administration after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, including imposing new restrictions on the FBI's access to private phone and financial records.

H.L.s Take: Count Chocula Cheney is an evil dude, whats up with that guy anyway?

Bush Borrowed More Than All Previous Presidents Combined, Group Says

Excerpt:
President Bush and the current administration have borrowed more money from foreign governments and banks than the previous 42 presidents combined, a group of conservative to moderate Democrats said Friday.
Blue Dog Coalition, which describes itself as a group "focused on fiscal responsibility," called the administration's borrowing practices "astounding."
According to the Treasury Department, from 1776-2000, the first 224 years of U.S. history, 42 U.S. presidents borrowed a combined $1.01 trillion from foreign governments and financial institutions, but in the past four years alone, the Bush administration borrowed $1.05 trillion.

H.L.s Take: And who do you think is going to pay back all that money after the Bush's have all fled down to Brazil to live out the rest of their years as the richest fugitives in history...Us. We let them steal it all, and now we have to pay it all back. Even if they all do time, they will be set big time when they get out.

Voters oust US school board that backed intelligent design

Excerpt:
The Pennsylvanian school board that is attempting to introduce the teaching of intelligent design as an alternative to evolution was yesterday ousted in local elections by anti-creationist campaigners.
All eight Republican members of the board, the body that sets education policy for Dover, Pennsylvania, lost their seats to Democrat challengers.

H.L.s Take: To bad the people in Kansas, are not as smart as the ones in Pennsylvania, looks like the Republican Bush backlash is in full swing. bout f-ing time
