Roberts Dodges Specifics on Abortion Stance

Excerpt: At one point, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., who has indicated he may run for president in 2008, accused Roberts of "filibustering."
"Go ahead and continue not to answer," said Biden. Later, he interrupted Roberts and when criticized, insisted, "His answers are misleading, with all due respect."
"Wait a minute! Wait a minute! They may be misleading but they are his answers," said Sen. Arlen Specter (news, bio, voting record), R-Pa., the Judiciary Committee chairman.

H.L.s Take: Everyone knows that "Mislead" is Government speak for lie. So what Arlen Specter was saying is "His answers may be lies, but they are his answers." So thats supposed to make it ok, just like it is for the President. Glad to see that Biden is putting up an illusion of a fight, but I bet that old whore votes to confirm anyway.
Once Roberts is confirmed this country will go straight down the crapper.

Bush Takes Responsibility for Blunders

Excerpt: Facing sharp criticism and the lowest approval ratings of his presidency, Bush scheduled a speech to the nation from Louisiana for Thursday evening. It will be his fourth trip to the devastated Gulf Coast since the storm struck two weeks ago.

H.Ls Take: Great just what we need another rah rah speech by Bush. Whats he going to say? "The looters are on the run. Dry land is on the march. The disaster is in its final throes, we have to stay the course. Too bad Bush will never have to be held accountable for the purposeful way he let all those poor black people die.

Less than two weeks after Katrina devastated New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, the former FEMA head was on the scene to drum up business for his clients

Excerpt: Allbaugh had been to Louisiana, in his official FEMA capacity, after a number of other disasters including tropical storms Allison and Isidore and Hurricane Lili. Now, he was there as the head of the Allbaugh Company -- a firm he co-founded with his wife, Diane, which specializes in advising companies how to get in on lucrative disaster relief projects. He was, the Washington Post reported, "helping his clients get business from perhaps the worst natural disaster in the nation's history."

H.L.s Take: Everytime a disaster occurs that our Government was supposed to stop, the first thing they do is get all the companies they own or control involved in the big money making ventures involved in the recovery. People ask What was Bush doing during the hurricane. He was on the phone with his Rich business friends, saying "I got a golden jackpot payday bonanza for you, get down to New Orleans now".

Hurricane Katrina A Moral Moment by Al Gore

Excerpt: I know that you are deeply concerned, as I am, about the direction in which our country has been moving.

H.L.s Take: Al, The reason the country is moving in the direction it is, is all because of you, Al. Its all your fault. You refused to fight when you had the chance. You did everything you could to lose the election, then when you won, and they tried to steal it away from you, you let them. You didn't even try to fight. Was it a fix Al? How much did they pay you? If you are so damned concerned why don't you act like it? Why don't you say something. How about calling a press confrence and blasting Bush with both barrels about everything? Why Al? When the history of how the Destruction and end of The United States of America is written, the book will have your picture on the cover. Thanks Al.

Counterpunch
Riptide of the Brownshirts Power Grab in New Orleans

Excerpt: FEMA took no action until 3 days after the hurricane, delaying the arrival of effective help until 5 days after 80% of New Orleans was under water.
Compare this inexplicable delay with the rapid response to the Florida hurricanes last year. Cynics note that Florida's governor is President Bush's brother, a Republican being groomed for a run for president, while the Louisiana governor and New Orleans mayor are expendable Democrats. However, the New Orleans disaster is too great to be attributed solely to crass party politics.

H.L.s Take: Cynics? If you want to call reality cynicism go ahead, but Its as plain as the nose on your face that Bush was ass kissing Florida big time, and telling Louisiana to go to hell. It was all done on purpose to start the slow process into martial law, and detention centers for all but the very richest Americans.

An Administration Sworn to Secrecy, A Nominee Dedicated to Evasion

Excerpt: The Bush presidency is replete with examples of actions to restrict the public's access to information. From the very beginning, according to bushsecrecy.org, “[e]xpansive assertions of executive privilege, restrictive views of the Freedom of Information Act, increasing use of national security classification,” and “stonewalling in response to congressional requests for information” have been hallmarks of Bush's administration. These incidents include:

Suppressing information about the health effects of the World Trade Center collapse[2];

Withholding information about the membership on the Cheney energy commission task force[3];

Stonewalling investigators from the 9/11 commission in their efforts to get information about what the administration knew before the attacks[4]; and

Refusing to provide information requested by the Senate about UN Ambassador John Bolton's attempts to access surveillance against American citizens working for the federal government

H.L.s Take: If he refuses to answer then he should be rejected, but he won't so whats the point?
