Oil execs met Cheney task force: WP

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A White House document shows oil executives met with Vice President Dick Cheney's 2001 energy task force which critics say secretly formed energy policy favorable to the industry, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday.
The document, obtained this week by the newspaper, shows that officials from four major oil companies met in the White House complex with Cheney aides who were formulating the Bush administration's energy policy, the report said.
H.L.s Take: Now we know why Cheney tried to hide this information for so long, actually we knew all along, Cheney has oil companies setting environmental policy. Kind of like having Mass murderers decide what kind of killing is legal (oh yeah we already have that)
N.Y. to Lose $125 Million in 9/11 Aid

The tug-of-war over the $125 million began earlier this year when the White House proposed taking the money back because the state had not yet spent it.
New York protested, saying the money was part of the $20 billion pledged by President Bush to help rebuild after the Sept. 11 attacks. Health advocates said the money is needed to treat current and future illnesses among ground zero workers.
The Senate voted last month to let New York keep the $125 million, but the House made no such move. House and Senate budget negotiators then decided to take the money back, lawmakers and aides said.

Woodward Was Told of Plame More Than Two Years Ago

Woodward's testimony appears to change key elements in the chronology Fitzgerald laid out in his investigation and announced when indicting Libby three weeks ago. It would make the unnamed official -- not Libby -- the first government employee to disclose Plame's CIA employment to a reporter. It would also make Woodward, who has been publicly critical of the investigation, the first reporter known to have learned about Plame from a government source.
The testimony, however, does not appear to shed new light on whether Libby is guilty of lying and obstructing justice in the nearly two-year-old probe or provide new insight into the role of senior Bush adviser Karl Rove, who remains under investigation.
Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Rove, said that Rove is not the unnamed official who told Woodward about Plame and that he did not discuss Plame with Woodward.
H.L.s Take: It was Cheney, it was Cheney. Woodward has been a Bush crony all along. Is this guy the biggest sell out of all time or what? first he helps bring down Nixon, then he becomes a White House Stenographer. Maybe he will unwittingly help to bring down his hero, The Monkey.

The recent Senate vote to require regular reports from the White House detailing all the wonderful "progress" we're making over there was more reflective of a desire to cover their asses as election time approaches than it was of growing antiwar sentiment in the U.S. Congress. This, after all, is substantially the same group of fools who voted overwhelmingly to authorize the invasion of Iraq in the first place, and pretty much stood by and did nothing even as the majority of Americans turned against the war.

Leaders and populations in other countries pay attention to domestic happenings in the United States, and have been quick to grasp his unenviable situation. Not that he was ever very well liked globally, but people were forced to pay heed to him for a period after his reelection. Now all of that has dissipated, and for the better.

Why Bill O'Reilly Hates San Francisco
Excerpt: Yesterday I appeared on O'Reilly's show. Predictably, he tried to pass off his comments as "satire." I told him that the people of San Francisco don't think the war in Iraq is a laughing matter, and that's why they voted by 60% to oppose military recruiters in our public schools. San Franciscans want our troops home now and don't want to replace them with more of our young people to kill and be killed in Iraq. Curiously, O'Reilly insisted military recruiters had nothing to do with the war in Iraq. When I asked him where he thought the young people who joined the military went, he started to bluster.

Needed: A New Leader Republicans would benefit if Tom DeLay stepped aside.

Political promises are easy, however. It's the results that matter. And for Mr. DeLay, the results aren't as plentiful as some assume. He had nearly four years as majority leader before being forced to step aside temporarily after his September indictment. For all that time his two biggest achievements are pushing through a redistricting plan in Texas that elected more Republicans to Congress and twisting enough arms to push through a Medicare prescription drug plan. Both of these achievements are bittersweet. The first resulted in Mr. DeLay's indictment--he's accused of breaking campaign finance laws by shuffling money in an out of Texas--and the second is a new entitlement that has infuriated conservatives.
H.L.s Take: Delay will never step aside because he is a crazed power mad weasle with an ego the size of Alaska. Let him take the whole party down with him. They deserve to all go down on the bad ship Delay

Hagel Defends Criticisms of Iraq Policy

Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) strongly criticized yesterday the White House's new line of attack against critics of its Iraq policy, saying that "the Bush administration must understand that each American has a right to question our policies in Iraq and should not be demonized for disagreeing with them."
