I just read a new article in Rolling Stone, by the greatest political writer ever. Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. If you want to learn about the recent political history of this country, books like The Great Shark Hunt, Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72, and Better Then Sex, are a great place to learn. (He is also the author of the mythical Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Hells Angels.) Thompson was a full time pol. writer back in the '60s and '70s. Back when he was covering Nixon during Watergate, he predicted everything that was going to happen, before it did. The good Doctor, is semi- retired now. He still puts out an occasional gambling/sports column for ESPN.COM, called Hey Rube. but the Doc has just written one worth of the glory years. He says Bush is finished, and he's usually right. check it out.

Fear and Loathing, Campaign 2004

This story is so good, that I have to include a couple of excerpts.

Kerry came into October as a five-point underdog with almost no chance of winning three out of three rigged confrontations with a treacherous little freak like George Bush. But the debates are over now, and the victor was clearly John Kerry every time. He steamrollered Bush and left him for roadkill.

This year's first presidential debate was such a disaster for George Bush that his handlers had to be crazy to let him get in the ring with John Kerry again. Yet Karl Rove let it happen, and we can only wonder why. But there is no doubt that the president has lost his nerve, and his career in the White House is finished. NO MAS. .

Every GOP administration since 1952 has let the Military-Industrial Complex loot the Treasury and plunge the nation into debt on the excuse of a wartime economic emergency. Richard Nixon comes quickly to mind, along with Ronald Reagan and his ridiculous "trickle-down" theory of U.S. economic policy?.. It goes back to preindustrial America, when only white male property owners could vote. .

Richard Nixon looks like a flaming liberal today, compared to a golem like George Bush. Indeed. Where is Richard Nixon now that we finally need him? If Nixon were running for president today, he would be seen as a "liberal" candidate, and he would probably win. He was a crook and a bungler, but what the hell? Nixon was a barrel of laughs compared to this gang of thugs from the Halliburton petroleum organization who are running the White House today - Nixon hated running for president during football season, but he did it anyway. Nixon was a professional politician, and I despised everything he stood for -- but if he were running for president this year against the evil Bush-Cheney gang, I would happily vote for him.

The State Of Radio Today

As you may, or may not know, I am not very happy with the state of the media today. I watch Television for a living here in Hollywood (Quality Control at a Post Production facility) But when I get home, the only time the TV gets turned on is for Football, or a Presidential Debate, and rarely ever besides.

I have also pretty much stopped listening to Radio. I used to enjoy listening to news radio, and sports talk radio, but I have stopped because here in L.A. (The rest of the country may not be as bad.) Talk radio is over saturated with commericials. I think the reason that talk radio has become so successful and there is so much of it, is becuase when its all talk, you almost dont even realize the commericals are playing, but they are still penetrating your subconsious. L.A. talk radio is pretty close to a 50-50 split between Program content, and commercials. That means half the time they are airing commercials. I have 5 AM preset buttons, on my car radio, at any given time when I flip through the buttons, at least 3, sometimes 4, and occasionally all 5, will be playing commericials at the same time. Sometimes I will try to avoid the commercials by constantly hitting the preset buttons, and even though I am trying to miss them, I catch myself listening to some stupid commercial. Now in the old days I never had a problem with a station playing 3 or 4 songs in a row, and then 2 minutes of commercials, which might work out to about 8 minutes of commericals per hour. I realize that they have bills to pay, but now its all about greed.

When I was a kid, growing up, I loved to listen to Howard Stern, I started listening to him when he first came to New York in 1983, this was before he was mainly concerned with strippers, and it was a very funny show. After Stern got fired from WNBC, and went over to WXRK (known as K-Rock) he became more and more popular, and eventually they started airing more, and more, commericals. One day around 1991 when I was on my way home from a graveyard shift, I put on Stern during the half hour ride. Of that Half hour Infinity Broadcasting, who was Stern's boss, aired 23 minutes of commercials. That was it for me. I haven't listened since.

Also lets not forget the fact that almost all talk radio is dominated by right wing blowhards like Rush Limbaugh etc. and the news stations are owned by the same Bush crack licking toadies who own the TV stations so they treat the monkey for the most part like the New Messiah.

Add to that all this FCC crap that has sprung up ever since Janet Jackson showed her boobs at the Super Bowl. (I wonder if they paid her to do that.) So now no one can say, or do, anything that isn't suitable for a 5 year old child, becuase that would be to offensive, and you see that Radio nowadays is just a big pile of garbage.

FM Music Radio is no better. They don't play quite as many commercials, but any Rock 'n Roll fan can tell you that they only play the most played out, songs of all time, or if they play new music, they have a list of about 5, to 10 songs that they play over, and over, until you want to vomit.

So what is the point of all this? Glad you asked. As you probably have heard by now. Howard Stern recently signed a $500 Million Dollar deal with Sirius Satellite Radio, He will be heading over there as soon as his current contract expires. Where he will be free to do, and say, whatever the hell he wants. Sirius has also signed up other DJ's that have been fired becuase some lame-o's couldn't deal with the realities of everyday life. Add to that, that Sirius has already been signed on to do NFL, and Major League Baseball Games, and it is quickly apparent that this is the wave of the future.

Which brings me to another important subject. When I started The Hollywood Liberal, I was unemployed, and had lots of free time. I am now working 4 hours a day, watching TV. This cuts into the time that I have to work on the site, but I can handle it. If I have to begin working full time, It will seriously cut into the attention that I can pay to this. My goal is to bring you the best possible Politcal website I can, and that takes time. Tomorrow is our 3 month anniversary, and in that time I have spent literally hundreds of hours, building and working on the site. In an attempt to offset this conundrum, I have begun to incorporate a small amount of advertising to the site.(Believe me I wish I didn't have to, but I don't want to ask H.L. readers for donations.) Its actually commision based and I only get paid if people click through and buy. My main sponsor is going to be Sirius, because it is something I believe in. I get the 40, no matter which plan anyone gets. Commercial free radio. (It better be commercial free, or I will drop them quick) with no FCC restrictions. Boston Police Admit Blame in Death of Women During Baseball Celebration

When are these goddamn cops going to start to realize that just because a group of people get together on the street, that you can't just start harrassing them, arresting them, and even shooting at them for no reason. They started firing supposedly "non lethal" projectiles into the crowd. Good work guys. A spontaneous celebration breaks out and the cops use it as target practice. Once again The Police are there to help. So what happens now? If Boston is anything like L.A., the citizen taxpayers will have to shell out Millions in a law suit, and the cop who did the shooting probalby won't even be disiplined, and that poor girls family will never be the same.
