Major Bachmann Super PAC forms
A trio of well-known conservatives have organized a so-called “super PAC” to aid Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann’s bid for the Republican presidential nomination, according to sources familiar with the move.
Citizens for a Working America, as the group is known, will be chaired by former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell. Ed Brookover, a longtime political consultant and adviser to Bachmann, will be involved as will conservative lawyer and economist Marc Nuttle.
“Michele Bachmann is a principled conservative with the policy prescriptions our country needs to pull out of its economic doldrums,” said Brookover in an email exchange with The Fix. “We look forward to promoting her and her programs to the American public.”
Christie camp denies report that governor is rethinking presidential bid
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s office is shooting down a report that he is rethinking his decision not to join the GOP presidential race in 2012.
Bloomberg columnist Jonathan Alter tweeted early Wednesday afternoon that Christie had been “conducting focus groups in preparation for a possible run for president in 2012.”
Christie spokeswoman Maria Comella issued a flat denial, telling The Fix that the report is “absolutely not true.”
Intel panels to take stock of post-9/11 progress
The House and Senate intelligence committees held a series of dramatic public hearings after the Sept. 11 attacks a decade ago, sessions that laid bare the failures of the nation’s intelligence and law enforcement agencies to detect or prevent the al-Qaeda plot.
The two panels announced Wednesday that they are planning a reprise of those joint sessions to coincide with the 10-year anniversary of the attacks, this time focusing on how the terror threat has changed and whether the United States’ defenses have kept pace.
