77% Say Raise Taxes for Social Security
A new Public Policy Polling/Daily Kos poll finds 77% of Americans would rather pay Social Security taxes on salaries above the current cap of $106,800 than see their benefits cut and the retirement age increased to 69. Even 67% of self-identified Tea Partiers would rather raise the tax cap than cut benefits and hike the retirement age. “[O]utside of the punditry, the DC political class, and a tiny fringe, no one wants benefits cuts,” writes Daily Kos publisher Markos Moulitsas.
