The city of Bell, Calif., drew quite a bit of unwanted attention to itself last summer with the revelation that several top officials were pocketing ridiculously high salaries at the expense of its citizens. Now it’s looking like payback time, as the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is on the case. —KA Los Angeles Times: The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday directed county auditors to conduct a comprehensive review of Bell’s finances to determine whether the scandal-plagued city is solvent. […] The board directed the county auditor-controller and chief executive officer to review the city’s current cash position, contracts and outstanding debts, including authorized and issued bonds. The auditors are expected to report back in 30 days, said Auditor-Controller Wendy Watanabe. The financial review, expected to cost $100,000, will be paid for by the county. Read more
