Senate Spoils Obama’s Recess
Senate Democrats agreed Wednesday night to a Republican demand to block President Obama from making recess appointments while Congress is out of town campaigning for the midterm elections. Democratic leaders have agreed to schedule pro-forma sessions of the Senate every week over the next six weeks, preventing any appointments.

For several days California GOP Gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman has been decrying the story of she and her husband knowlingly hiring and employing an illegal immigrant. Whitman has consistently proclaimed her family’s complete innocence.

As they say in the game, “whoops”!

The attorney for Meg Whitman’s former housekeeper released a copy Thursday of a purported 2003 letter that she says shows the Republican gubernatorial candidate knew all along that the maid might be an illegal immigrant.

But wait, doesn’t somebody have to be thrown under the bus?

But Allred produced a copy of the letter Thursday that she says shows Whitman’s husband, Dr. Griffith Harsh, partially filled it out. If true, that would mean Whitman and her husband were aware of the immigration problem years ago.

Ah, that’s better.

Highbrow birtherism: D’Souza links Obama policies to “the ideology of a Luo tribesman”

Dinesh D’Souza appeared on Fox News’ Glenn Beck to discuss how his “anti-colonialist” theory explains the motivations behind President Obama’s policy decisions. While doing so, D’Souza invented some facts and mangled others in order to peddle the ridiculous notion that President Obama is “a captive of the ideology of a Luo tribesman from the 1950s.”

D’Souza’s highbrow birtherism attributes Obama’s policy decisions to his African heritage

D’Souza: Obama is “a captive of the ideology of a Luo tribesman from the 1950s.” On the September 30 edition of Glenn Beck, after making a variety of false, misleading, or bizarre assertions about President Obama, D’Souza claimed:

Obama is not anti-American in that he wishes ill on America. He wants what’s best for America. He thinks it’s really bad for us to be a colonial power. And therefore, in his view, he is doing right for America by pulling us out, by knocking us off our pedestal, by in a sense taking us from being the world’s arrogant superpower. He wants us to share the wealth. He thinks he’s gonna get a better America. The problem is, he’s stuck in this theory, he’s frozen in this time machine. In a sense, he’s a captive of the ideology of a Luo tribesman from the 1950s. It’s an incredible idea.

D’Souza myth: Obama returned Churchill bust to Britain to lash out at Chuchill’s colonial policies

D’Souza Claim: Obama returned Churchill bust due to hatred of Churchill’s colonialist policies. D’Souza claimed that Obama’s “anti-colonialism explains” the return of a bust of Winston Churchill to the British government when Obama took office “very well,” saying that Obama had returned the bust because of his opposition to Churchill’s colonialist actions during his tenure as prime minister.

D’Souza said that the torture of Obama’s grandfather and arrest of his father during the British response to the memorandum issued by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to the director of the Minerals Management Service said that in the wake of “the recent blow-out and oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico,” “I find at this time and under current conditions that offshore drilling of new deepwater wells poses an unacceptable threat of serious and irreparable harm to wildlife and the marine, coastal, and human environment” and that “[t]herefore, I am directing a six month suspension of all pending, current, or approved offshore drilling operations of new deepwater wells in the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific regions.”

A June 16 Washington Post article explained that “the same tiny Texas subcontractor” authored the Gulf spill response plans for BP, ConocoPhillips, Chevron, Shell Oil, and ExxonMobil, The same article also indicated that those companies “listed the phone number for the same University of Miami marine science expert, Peter Lutz, who died in 2005” in their spill response plans.

Scott Holds Lead for Florida Governor

Scott Holds Lead for Florida Governor
A new Quinnipiac poll in Florida shows Rick Scott (R) leading Alex Sink (D) in the race for governor among likely voters, 49% to 43%.

Said pollster Peter Brown: “Scott’s millions in TV advertising may annoy voters, but it won him the Republican nomination and is pushing him to a 6-point general election lead. It’s no surprise that Scott’s campaigning and advertising has been trying to tie Sink to President Barack Obama. The president’s low ratings, especially among independents who are likely to decide the governor’s race, are a problem for Ms. Sink’s campaign.”

Iraq Breaks Record for Having No Government
Iraq will today “surpass the previous record for the country that has gone the longest between holding a parliamentary election and forming a government,” the Washington Post reports.

“The Netherlands had held that unfortunate honor after a series of failed attempts left the country without an elected government for 207 days in 1977… Iraqis have now spent 208 days with no new government.”

“As politicians jockey for positions and broker deals in backroom meetings, many Iraqis now say they wonder why they risked their lives to vote on March 7. U.S. officials are increasingly concerned that the lack of an elected government has limited Iraq’s ability to make national decisions and could eventually eat away at hard-earned security gains. The most optimistic of Iraqi politicians expect the process to take at least another month, if not much longer.”

Fox News Parent Gives to Chamber of Commerce
“News Corp., the parent company of Fox News, contributed $1 million this summer to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the business lobby that has been running an aggressive campaign in support of the Republican effort to retake Congress,” Politico reports.

“It was the second $1 million contribution the company has made this election cycle to a GOP-aligned group. In late June it gave that amount to the Republican Governors Association.”
