Credit Crisis=Iraq, Paulson=Cheney, Goldman Sachs=Halliburton
from www.breadwithcircus.com As the Credit Crisis morphs into the second great depression, there’s a big picture concept that a lot of people seem to be missing. I want to make a very simple point. The Bush administration’s financial policy is exactly the same as its military policy. The people in Bush’s cabinet who are responsible for any […]

Coleman’s Lead Shrinks Again
In Minnesota’s U.S. Senate recount, with about 46% of the 2.9 million ballots counted by last night, the gap between Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN) and challenger Al Franken (D) continued to shrink, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Coleman now leads by just 136 votes, a drop from his unofficial lead of 215.

“Both campaigns claimed to be optimistic Thursday about the recount results, but for different reasons.”

The LiberalOasis Radio Show: Build Baby Build Edition

Today at 10 AM ET, The LiberalOasis Radio Show was broadcast on WHMP-AM in Western MA. First, I talked to my Campaign for America’s Future colleague Eric Lotke about his new report “The Investment Deficit in America,” which lays out how we can rebuild and modernize our crumbling infrastructure. Then, I interviewed Rev. Dr. Peter Ives of The First Churches of Northampton about how religion impacted the 2008 election.

The audio podcast for the show is here: (iTunes / XML feed / MP3). No videocast this week.

scottnew.gifWal-Mart Chief Executive Officer Lee Scott will retire effective Feb. 1, 2009. He will be replaced by Mike Duke, who currently heads the company’s international operations. While Wal-Mart has made constructive efforts to tackle the health care crisis and establish more environmentally-friendly business practices under Scott’s tenure, it has also worked tirelessly to erode workers’ rights. Wal-Mart Watch released this statement today:

Wal-Mart’s announcement today of Mike Duke as the new Chief Executive Officer must be viewed in the context of the recent election. It represents an opportunity for Wal-Mart to change from the low-wage, low-benefit business model to one that will be more appealing to an Obama administration.

Who Killed Detroit?

Who Killed Detroit?
Who killed the U.S. auto industry? To hear the media tell it, arrogant corporate chiefs failed to foresee the demand for small, fuel-efficient cars and made gas-guzzling road-hog SUVs no one wanted, while the clever, far-sighted Japanese, Germans and Koreans prepared and built for the future. I dissent. What killed Detroit was Washington, the government of the United States, politicians, journalists and muckrakers who have long harbored a deep animus against the manufacturing class that ran the smokestack industries that won World War II.
