Bonus Quote of the Day
“It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he’s the one who proposed this national security force. I’m just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism.”

— Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA), quoted by the AP, saying President-elect Obama may “establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship.”

GOP congressman: Obama wants to go ?down the road? of Hitler.
In July, Barack Obama proposed a “civilian national security force,” an idea backed by President Bush and intended to expand AmeriCorps and other national service programs. But today in an interview with the AP, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) compared the idea to a Gestapo-like force: “That’s exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it’s […]

But today in an interview with the AP, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) compared the idea to a Gestapo-like force:

That’s exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it’s exactly what the Soviet Union did,” Broun said. “When he’s proposing to have a national security force that’s answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he’s showing me signs of being Marxist.”

“We can’t be lulled into complacency,” Broun said. “You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I’m not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I’m saying is there is the potential of going down that road.

Remember Me? The One With the ‘O’ Button?
The morning after Election Day they began to appear, online artifacts of an emotional night, evidence that bashes around the city and beyond had transformed briefly into centers of love and brotherhood.

Three Men for Today’s Challenges

Three Men for Today’s Challenges
If there is a single appointment Barack Obama could make to signal how dramatically things will change in Washington, it would be to name Albert Gore Jr. — former congressman, former senator, former vice president, former presidential candidate and current Custodian of the Planet — as secretary of state. For all the other aspirants to the job, sorry — this is an inconvenient truth. Can you imagine a bolder statement about a new direction when it comes to global warming and the general care of our abused planet? Gore has won a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in this area (and an Oscar, to boot), and his appointment would signal a dramatic shift from the indifference of the Bush era with its cold shoulder to the Kyoto treaty. In one stroke, the United States would emerge as the leader of nations in the effort to save the planet from ourselves — and prepare America for the consequences of a changed world.
