Ye Old Scribe Presents: Maverick (sic) or; One Hell of a Sick Maverick
Ye Olde Scribe’s Incredible, Inedible Quote Machine “Don’t eat it. Read it. Cause ya can’t be too chew… see.” “For example, in a Weekly Standard column titled ‘McCain versus the juggernaut,’ neoconservative pundit William Kristol warned that an ‘Obama-Biden administration — working with a Democratic Congress — would mean a more debilitating nanny state at home and […]

Obama Burying McCain on Television Ads

Obama Burying McCain on Television Ads
New analysis from the Wisconsin Advertising Project finds Sen. Barack Obama is outspending Sen. John McCain 3-to-1 on television advertising.

From October 21st to October 28th, the Obama campaign spent nearly $21.5 million while the McCain campaign spent nearly $7.5 million.  Another $6.7 million was spent by the Republican Party and $2.2 million was spent by interest groups.

“Because these numbers are for the most recent period for which data are available, they do not include the millions Obama spent Wednesday night on a 30-minute infomercial that aired on seven networks. They combine to put the Obama campaign on track to spend more money in October on broadcast TV – over $100 million dollars – than any campaign has ever spent in history.”

Marriage Equality Hangs in the Balance: Prop. 8 in a Dead Heat
This weekend’s call to action from religious leaders to prevent the “destruction of Western civilization” could help push equality foes to victory.

Early Voting Extended In North Carolina

Early Voting Extended In North Carolina
More good news for Obama on the early voting front: It’s been extended in North Carolina, reports the Charlotte Observer. North Carolina Republicans, predictably, are outraged by the extension — not because Obama is leading McCain in early voting in…

TPMtv: It’s the Surge, Stupid
If you’re desperate to be John McCain’s vice presidential nominee, you better get on TV and start talking up the Surge as the single most important issue in this year’s presidential campaign. And if you’re serious about getting picked it…

Kristol mocks New York Times, before Stewart points out Kristol writes for the Times.
Last night, right-wing columnist Bill Kristol was Jon Stewart’s guest on “The Daily Show.” They argued over whether Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has changed, and Kristol dismissed Stewart’s criticism by saying he was reading the New York Times too much. “Bill, you work for the New York Times!” Stewart reminded him. Final-Weekend Push Starts in Midwest
DES MOINES, Oct. 31 — With barely 100 hours left in the presidential campaign, Sen. Barack Obama returned to Iowa, a state described by one adviser as “hallowed ground” for its role in launching his improbable candidacy, while Sen. John McCain spent his second straight day in Ohio, a state he…

Bile, Rage and Sarah Palin

Bile, Rage and Sarah Palin
Yogi Berra famously observed that “you can see a lot by looking.” I know exactly what the great New York Yankee meant. You can hear a lot by listening, too. Over the homestretch of the presidential campaign, I’ve been spending a lot of time at a rehabilitation hospital with someone very close to me as she recovers from back surgery. Much of the conversation in this microcosm of the urban health-care system is about Barack Obama and John McCain. Most of the doctors are white men, the physical and occupational therapists and nurses are mostly white women, and the aides and technicians are usually immigrants from Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. The patients come in all colors, and the bills will be paid by private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare. Something of a pollster’s dream.
