How the GOP Will Benefit From Impending Economic Collapse

The Existentialist Cowboy
Republicans benefit from the fact that recessions are class conscious, affecting worse those who can least afford them. An era of highly leveraged US economic expansion and empire is about to come crashing down and swept away. Count on the GOP to make out like bandits.
It seems like ages ago, the US was at peace, there was a budget surplus, the economy was growing, and the unemployment rate was very low. But not everyone was happy. There was an entire group of people who harbor not good, but ill will; an entire class wished for bad times and got it.
Until now, China had an interest in keeping the US ponzi scheme propped up –they sold billions to US citizens via Wal-Mart, the economic Kudzu that ate America. But since a Chinese sub popped up undetected in the middle of the US fifth fleet, it has been apparent that the honeymoon is over. China now leads the world in dumping dollars. Everywhere, it seems, it has become a habit.

HL’s Take:
It’s looking more and more like an economic collapse is coming. Gas prices are at an all time high, food prices are going up. Diesel prices are so high that truck drivers can’t afford to drive anymore, which causes food prices to go even higher. Housing prices are plunging, Bear Sterns just collapsed. It is all coming down hard. This is Bush’s final F&%k You to America. He is letting his buddies run rampant while they still can. After it is over he will retire to Paraguay, while the nation he ruined fights to survive.

In the long run, yes – the goal is to eviscerate the middle class, the only class with enough resources to fight the moneyed class. If you’re struggling to find something to eat, you won’t care about politics. But in the short run, in 2008, the worsening economy will absolutely sink the Republican party come November.

I love it when uneducated people start making predictions about what is happening to this country. You want to know why it is that fuel is going up. It isn’t because of OPEC. we only get about 30% of our oil form the middle east. It is because we aren’t being allowed to get the oil in this country. I have read article after article about how Bush is stealing oil from the middle east here and yet I don’t see a single article about us drilling for our own oil here. That would bring the cost down real fast. The reason that food is going up is in part because of the cost in fuel but the biggest reason is because you eco idiots seem to think that biofuel is better. Well maybe you should read something other than the local media because they have found that biofuels are worse than regular fuels.

And the eco nuts think that it is better for the country and the planet. Well once again the uneducated are the ones who think they know it all and we are finding out that they don’t.
As for and impending economic collapse keep dreaming. The only way that will happen is if the idiots in the governement keep trying to “help it out or fix it”

Pres. Bush pushed biofuels. They are an unmitigated disaster. Don’t say ‘green’ parties pushed it : that is completely incorrect. Yes, they have pushed up the price of food.Riots have started in the poorest countries because people are starving. The Oil Drum is written by energy industry pros and is a good source of coverage of trends. One ocasional participant wrote The Ergosphere at Blogspot : a fascinating overview of a potential domestic energy strategy.
