The Hollywood Liberal started in 2004 at the height of the Bush Administration madness in America. We were inspired by the late great Bartcop.com. The very first thing I did when the site started was to get arrested at the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York. My arrest at the start of a march from The World Trade Center was later ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge. On New Years Eve 2014 the case was finally settled, with a judge awarding a class action suit that I was part of over $26 Million. I posted daily on the blog up until the end of The Bush error, and the site is now run as a history of the whole fiasco. The firestorm of petty,mean-spirited vitriol surrounding Al Gore’s Nobel prize speaks volumes about the panic among the Republican fold. It seems obvious that toeing the party line trumps any concern for the planet’s survival. Or can it be that they’re even more fearful that this good and decent man presents a tempting alternative to the American voting public ?

One of the most distressing aspects of the american political scene is the degeneration of civility. What used to be healthy and productive debate has disappeared, only to be replaced by hateful, personal attacks, leaving almost no room for constructive competition of ideas. I mourn the loss of the stature and admiration our nation enjoyed all over the world. The America which I fought for in war used to be regarded as the golden dream and magnet for all people. Unfortunately that feeling is no longer in evidence in many of te countries I’ve visited. When poisonous character assassination is the answer to honest difference of opinion it’s pretty easy to tell who is in the right.
