Time For All Of Us To Take Action

Posted in Latest Stories & Articles by H.L., Main Blog (All Posts) on July 23rd, 2007 7:48 am by HL

The time has come for each and every one of us to take action and stand up to Bush, Cheney, and their administration. I have just been on the phone with the offices of John Conyers, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Henry Waxman, who is my house representative, and both California Senators Dianne Feinstein, and Barbara Boxer. Several alarming stories have come out in the past couple of days which if you are a reader of The H.L., or any other progressive blog, you already know about. You can scan down the page for more information on the articles that I am about to pass on. Each and every one of us needs to get on the phone and call Conyers office, and your House representative and both Senators from your state and start making some noise about what Bush is apparently trying to do, which it appears to be declaring Martial Law at his own personal discretion. Here is the action we need to take.

1. John Conyers has said that if he gets 3 more members of congress to back him, he will begin Impeachment proceedings against Dick Cheney with or without Speaker of The House Nancy Pelosi. Call Congressman Conyers at (202) 225-5126 and demand that he begin impeachment proceeding immediately. Call your own Congressional representative. You can dial the U.S. Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 (You can also reach your Senators at this same number.) ask for the office of your congressman, tell them that you want them to sign on with Conyers to back impeachment.

2. Last Week Bush came out with an Executive Order to ban all Iraq War Protests. According to this order he can have your assets and property seized for protesting the Iraq War. This is outrageous. An executive order only becomes law if Congress doesn’t overturn it within thirty days after it is published in the Federal Register. Tell your congress person that you want them to step up and put a stop to this. As above you can reach your representative at 202-224-3121. After you get off the phone call both of your Senators. In California you can reach Senator Dianne Feinstein at 202-224-3841. You can reach Senator Barbara Boxer at 202-224-3553. Outside of California call The U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for your Senators office.

3. Last week Congressman Peter Defazio of Oregon, a member of the Homeland Security Committee, based on complaints by his constituency asked to see the documents on how Bush will conduct the Government after a significant “Terrorist” attack, and was denied. Call your Representative and Senators at the numbers listed above and demand that Congress take action against Bush for refusing to allow members of Congress and The Homeland Security Committee to see his post terrorist attack plans.

4. Section 1076 of H.R. 5122 The John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for 2007, which was passed with the approval of Democrats like Senators Carl Levin, and Ted Kennedy, says that Bush has sole discretion to impose martial law, in the event of a Terrorist attack or any national emergency, like a hurricane. Call your representatives and Senators at the numbers listed above and demand that they overturn this policy.

Can you imagine Congress giving Bush that kind of authority with his track record? You’d almost think the Congress; including Democrats are all in on this together against the American people. It’s time for us to put a stop to it. Get on the phone right now and start demanding that Congress do its job. It may be the only chance we have to stop Bush from appointing himself permanent King of America. Get going.

Thank You

Update:

Dianne Feinstein responds to HL readers email: Here is an excerpt.

At this time, however, I believe that impeachment proceedings against President Bush or Vice President Cheney will only divide the country even further, frustrating our hopes for a meaningful change in direction, while having little chance of success.

Mr. HL, do you really think that picking up a phone and calling your Senator will make a difference? Can you make an appointment to talk to her? She doesn’t want to hear you or me. Bring a bag of money and you might be able to get her autographed picture with a nice letter telling you how much she appreciates your support. Dude, she doesn’t care.

  2. HL Says:

    I know…I know

  3. LA Says:

Really? I always thought my Senators cared about me and my family.

  4. Anonymous Says:

t’s time to pack the kids in the car and move to Canada or some other country that practices real democracy. This ship is going down.

  5. Friendly Says:

Don’t make me laugh Anonymous. Canada is controlled by the same people that control America. Don’t think for one moment that there is any difference.

The same corporations and families control what happens. The only difference is the scale. In America you have more competition amongst the families and corporations. Canada, being a smaller and subservient country to America, makes itself appear independent to its population when in reality, it’s all the same game.

I think your idea is good because everyone should be prepared to leave the USA because the government is out of control.

Everyone is taxed to the max and gets no representation. If you work for a living like I do, taxes and what you get back matters. I’ve never heard of any corporations in America, France or the UK admit to being happy with taxes and what they get back. It’s usually the public or working class that carries the burden.

  6. Hay Says:

Friendly: When are you going to come down from your pedestal and admit you love Big Brother?
Why do you protest to only paying half your income to government? Look at Europe, they are quite content paying 70 to 80%. You are greedy. Don’t you know Big Brother loves and cares for you to? Europeans found this out long ago. Submit. At least for the sake of the enviroment.

  7. Europe Says:

Look at Europe, they are quite content paying 70 to 80%. ??? A joke or just ignorance ?

  8. Hay Says:

Europe: If one includes inflation; the most hideous of taxes, Europeans getting paid in a debased currency, backed by thin air, are actually paying much more in “taxes” than 70 to 80%.
In America to find your hourly wages in 1970 money just divide by ten. Then cream off another 50% to the government.

Europenas fell in love with Big Brother decades ago. Few are aware of his existence.

  9. Friendly Says:

I’m no friend of “Big Brother.” The entire notion of income taxes is under scrutiny because the IRS cannot produce a statute or case law allowing it to tax the American people. So, filing your 1040 tax return is voluntary and paying federal taxes is voluntary.

Paying taxes isn’t what bothers me most. What bothers me most is that the tax money I pay is wasted by the Federal and State governments and I have to say. I don’t get fair representation therefore, why should I pay taxes? For protection against terrorists? It always seems that every terrorist bust ends up being a frame up and the case is thrown out of court. Only after the lives of those accused have been ruined.

Refusing to pay taxes will get the attention of Congress. What is the IRS or government doing to do? Throw every tax protester in prison for not paying taxes? The government is in a difficult position because they don’t have any legal authority to tax the population. Therefore, not paying taxes directly affects Congress in its ability to prosecute an illegal war by funding it, puts them on notice that the taxpayer no longer is going to play the game of working 4-5 months of the year for the government as indentured servants.

  10. Hay Says:

Friendly: You sound like a Libertarian. One of theiir platforms is to abolish the IRS. How ridiculous can one get.

  11. LA Says:

Why not abolish the IRS? It would be one less government agency and eliminate a very large bureaucracy. Whether Repub, Dem or Libertarian, aren’t we all Americans? What is most important is protecting our national interests. If the Repubs and Dems had a responsible fiscal policy, we wouldn’t be in the debt as a country we find ourselves in. From the trillions of dollars that we owe, if seems that it’s impossible to change.

What I fear most is that our big government will attack Social Security as Bush already tried and siphon money out of that fund into the hands of the International Bankers. Henry Ford taught and warned us about this in the early 1920s. Although he was a capitalist, he was a true American patriot and icon.

  12. Hay Says:

LA: What do you mean “siphon money out of the Social Security fund?” I was under the impression it was all spent a long time ago. The “funds” exchanged for IOUs.

If we abolished the IRS we would have to elimate a huge part of the Federal Government. What would all those Federal employees do? They would have to find real work. I don’t know if they could handle it.
