A suicide car bomber rammed into an American patrol base in Diyala on Monday, killing nine soldiers and wounding 20, the military said. All were members of the 82nd Airborne’s 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, the military said. Fifteen of the 20 were treated and later returned to duty, while five others and an Iraqi civilian were evacuated to a medical facility, it said.
In its Web posting Tuesday, the Islamic State of Iraq put the number of Americans killed at 30.
“Almighty God has guided the soldiers of the Islamic State of Iraq to new methods of explosions,” it said without elaborating. The message appeared on a Web site that frequently airs communications from militants, but its authenticity could not be independently confirmed.
It was single deadliest attack on ground forces since Dec. 1, 2005, when a roadside bomb killed 10 Marines and wounded 11 on a foot patrol near Fallujah.

Just another day of Carnage in Bush’s war that he wants to go on forever. If we had pulled out Iraq like everyone wants to that would be 9 more soldiers that were still alive, 9 less families who’s lives would be ruined for the lie. The insurgents will never give up. Just like we would never give up if some foreign country invaded us and tried to take it over, steal all our resources and kill our citizens indiscriminately. We would be out in the streets fighting them with everything we had, and we would be right for doing so. There is a civil war going on over there and we can’t stop it. A civil war that broke out after we took out Saddam. Everyone knew it was going to happen, but Bush didn’t care he had to have his permanent military bases over there, and had to pump that oil out of unmetered wells to the tune of Millions of dollars a day. Lets end this already.

So what your saying HL is that Bush killed those 9 soliders not the suicide car bomber.
So now they want to say that God told them to do this. And yet the Qur’an tells them they are to promote justice, peace, and freedom. Nowhere in the Qur’an can be found support for indiscriminate slaughter, the killing of non-combatants, or murder of innocent persons in ‘payback’ for another people’s alleged crimes.
And you want to tell me that they are following their Qur’an HL and duing what their bible tells them they should do. Try again. The people that are killing our Troops and the innocents in Iraq are nothing but power hungery Terrorists.
As to you claim about the US stealing Iraqs resources why don’t you show me your proof. If we are stealing their oil than why is the price of gas not dropped. If we are indiscriminately killing their citizens than why isn’t the AP and all the other media hounds writting about it. As to military bases we have had bases in every country that we went to war with when it was over so that is a lame argument.

Well as a gun loving man i want to say thanks to the solders for standing in what is right. not buying , all this shit that pours out of peoples mouths. I also want to thnk this countrys for-fathers for giving me the bill of rights , the constition ( yea I know its miss spelled sned me to iraq) some times a lot of people for get how and why we can have a web site like this. But then again some people are just so stupid that they dont know copenhagen from worm shit. Does any liberal in this f**king room to stand up and defend there rights as a legal freedoom loveing man or woman of this country? Wow, you liberals are pretty stupid. How do you think it makes our troops feel when you say stuff like, “It’s Bush’s fault you’re getting killed in Iraq”? Don’t you think that these men and women were prepared to die for their country when they signed up for the military? They have something called guts, and i dont see any of you hollywood pussies rushing over there to do anything other than maybe apologize to the Iraqis for liberating them from a dictator who killed them by the thousands and placed them in mass graves. In conclusion, i am now, after visiting this site, convinced that Texas should just blow up california and get it over with. Then maybe we’d get rid of the majority of panty-assed liberals who voted against funding for our troops and then blamed Bush for their being underequipped (cough Kerry cough) That, or transport californians to Africa so they can fight AIDs and help humanity and all that shit. Right on guys I agree that the solders fighting in Iraq chose to join the Military! I don’t recall there being a statewide draft. And I also two guns and I beleive guns are harmless its the person that holds the gun that can be dangerous.

When I see that first post from Bill, Buck, Douglas, Kevin, Craig or Melody from Iraq then maybe I’ll start paying attention to your ranting. I think there are a few positions available in the Army and Marines over there. I’m not sure if the Mullah is already there or not. Otherwise you are all as big a bunch of cowards as Bush and Cheney were in the 60’s. For all of you, “it’s OK when somebody else is getting killed but just keep me out of it”.

Douglas, I was in the Air Force but assigned to the Ninth Infantry Division to support the airstrip at their brigade headquarters at Dong Tam, in the Mekong Delta. It was also the home base for the Riverine Forces that patrolled throughout the delta. Dong Tam is somewhat infamous because it was the staging base for the battle at Ben Tres during Tet, where the army officer was quoted as saying “We had to destroy the town in order to save it”. Sort of encapsulates the thinking that led us to lose the war over there.

sfliberal– i was just woundering. where i grew up i was around a lot of vets and heard a lot of storys bout what went on and where. my dad was in the Air Force, he does not talk bout it but has mentioned Mekong Delta once or twice. I don’t remember where my uncle was but do know he was army. any way i was just woundering why we should let the politcans run the war in iraq
when they proved during Veitnam they could not do it. at least that is the concluesion that i get from talking to other vets. while they mostly agree that we “probaly” should not be there. they all a have agreed we need to finish what we started and not let this be come a political power strugle that it has become. the feeling they are getting now is that “no one realy cares bout our Boys in iraq just as no one cared bout us in veitnam” and that hurts me deep to hear my friends say stuff like that. so i hope you can see where i am coming from

So you were attached to the “The OLD RELIABLES” than. You weren’t attached to the 148th or the 53rd.
The reason I ask is you say you were assigned to the Ninth Infantry Division to support the airstrip but the Ninth isn’t a support group. And the main forces in the Dong Tam were Navy and Army of which neither would need an Airmen.
So please tell me was it the Ninth or the 53rd which is a support group.

Bill.. fair questions. I was a Combat Weather Observor so I was in an Air Force unit while stationed at Dong Tam. I was housed in a hooch along with the Forward Air Control pilots and their ground support guys and worked mostly out of what passed for the control tower at the Dong Tam airstrip. So there were about 10 or 15 Airmen stationed on the Army Base all of the time. If your dad flew in or out of Dong Tam on the Caribou then he’ll know the airstrip. The Air Force flew the Caribou and the FAC flights but all of the rest of the traffic was army and navy helicopters and a few small fixed wing planes.. and Air America (CIA) planes and helicopters. Of course, as airmen on an army base we were often given a ration of shit, but I think the grunts appreciated it when we called in the airstrikes and I made a lot of friends among the army and navy guys there. I was able to get out to a couple of the Riverine ships now and then so I’m very familiar with them. I’ve only run into a handful of people over the last 40 years who ever even heard of Dong Tam so it’s great to make a connection.
