Is Dianne Feinstein an Ethics Violator?

Violations Force Feinstein Military Committee Resignation
Corruption Chronicles.
Excerpt:
During her six years as chair and ranking member of the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee, Senator Dianne Feinstein annually supervised the appropriation of billions of dollars for specific military construction projects. The San Francisco lawmaker supervised her own staff of military construction experts and she lobbied Pentagon officials to support her favorite projects.
She wielded quite a bit of power and succeeded in steering hundreds of billions of dollars in military contracts to companies partially owned by her wealthy husband, Richard Blum. One company alone earned $792 million from military construction and environmental cleanup projects approved by Feinstein’s committee and another $759 million.
The blatant ethics violation and obvious conflict of interest was first exposed earlier this year by a weekly Northern California publication. The story details how Feinstein voted over the years for appropriations that enriched her husband’s firms and that her top legal advisor also happens to be one of her husband’s longtime business partners; in other words, a financial beneficiary of the senator’s decisions.
HLs Take:
If this is true, then Feinstein is just another hypocrite politician just as bad as the Republicans. Even if it’s not true the time has come to oust this Republican lite, out of the Democratic party for good. We need a better Senator from California. Martin Sheen should run, he would win if he did. If he was in there he would be doing everything he could to stop Bush and war. I guess Marty just has too much ethics for Politics.

Well HL I guess your Democratic buddys are just as “crooked” as the Republicans that you keep complaining about. Not to mention that she comes from your home state and she is from the same town as your best of friend Pelosi does. Guess them Californians are just as crooked. Nice

Hey, I’m against corruption wherever it comes from. Besides Feinstein is too conservative anyway, we need a Liberal in there.

H.L. In all honesty dude, I think California is the most antiwar state in these here United States! The liberal bloggers are the new power of the democratic party. Just like my Texas is a pro war anti radical islamist state, California is a antiwar pro-negotiate and wait state. So H.L., seeing as how the hollywood actors have seized the psyche of the democratic party. Why dont you run for senator of California?
Folks let me introduce to you California’s next liberal democrat senator, Mr. Hollywood Liberal!

Martin Sheen? Come on. He made a career off violence and now you want this self righteous actor to get into the senate. What qualifications does he have-the West Wing? Put Charlie in office while you are at it. People, just because they are actors does not make them more qualified for public office-I would argue they are less qualified. They are not exactly in touch with everday Joe. They talk about the environment and then hop in the private jet. They f-up the environment more than ten regular families put together. Do as they say not as they do.

It just goes to show you that power and money corrupt all kinds of people (Democrats Independents and Republicans) alike. It isn’t being a certain Party that corrupts people, it is the Power and Greed that corrupts people.

I have not ever met a californian thaat had any morals yet,and they cat enforce the laws that they already have so why would we have therm try to make and enforce laws for the rest of the nation.but than there is not a polition out there that yyou can trust so why would we trust an actor after all that is all politions are right? except a real actor would be able to lie to us evan better. as for Dianne she is a typical califronian only thinking of her self. I can say this because of my job i deal with the whole country and cali. has the worst people worst to deal with. After all when they went bankrupt they tryed to bankrupt oregon.but after all i have to agree she is crooked

Douglas,
I’m writing from the Silicon Valley area (I’m from Ohio) and I have to say that, in my experience, what you’re saying couldn’t be further from the truth. The companies that I have interacted with tend to be run by “new rich”; they’ve built the institutions that they control. They tend to understand the realities of business and technology, and behave in socially responsible ways. They work to bolster the economy, technology and education, and ultimately improve people’s lives. They understand that businesses are successful because they create value.
Contrast that to the behavior of older Hollywood businesses (the RIAA and MPAA come to mind). They seem to be run by a bunch of lawyers and businessmen that have no goal other than maximizing profit over the next 6-12 months. As far as I can tell, they aren’t interested in supporting musicians and film producers; they wouldn’t care if the Hollywood fell into the ocean a few years from now as long as consumers kept cutting them checks. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule; the distinction I’m drawing is overly broad, but bear with me.
You can see the same sort of corruption in other institutions that have been inherited by they’re current leaders. Sadly, most members of congress seem to have inherited their power, not earned it.
Such people often feel they’re entitled to their position, or at least have learned nothing from life other than how to concentrate and guard their personal wealth at the expense of society. In that regard, I lump people like Feinstein in with the Bush administration; neither have any business running the US government.

Dianne Feinstein an Ethics Violator? Of course. She’s terrible for California. I personally feel any democrat that allowed Bush to take us down this road is even more responsible because they are the ones that are supposed to come through for us and keep guys like Bush in check. Why do you think the Green Party does so well here (compared to other states)? We need an alternative to these out of touch Senators who are disensitized to the corruption. I haven’t heard anyone talk about this around the water cooler.
