Dennis Kucinich: Cut Off Funding For Iraq

Rep. Dennis Kucinich: Cut Off Iraq War Funding

Truthdig
Excerpt:
Dennis KucinichTRUTHDIG: I was just reading up on your [Nov. 15] appearance on Democracy Now!, in which you talked about cutting off the funds to Iraq as being the only way to make any progress there. Do you want to comment on that?

KUCINICH: Today, it was announced that 2,000 more Marines are being sent to Anbar province—a place which was already declared “lost” for the purposes of military occupation. Why are we sacrificing our young men and women? Why are we keeping them in an impossible situation? Why are we stoking a civil war with our continued presence? We have to take a new direction in Iraq, and that direction is out.

Now, there are many plans out there. The people talking about phased redeployment, the president as the commander in chief ultimately has the authority to determine the placement of troops. Congress’ real authority, and Congress’ constitutional [mandate] as a co-equal branch of government, requires that it be heard from, and I believe that Congress must exercise its authority to protect the troops by bringing them home. And the only way we can do that effectively is to vote against supplemental appropriations—which has kept the war going, or to vote against appropriation bills which fund the war. That’s Congress’ ultimate power—the power of the purse.
If we truly care about our troops, we’ll get them out.

H.L.s Take
Kucinich is right, The Democrats are in a position to cut off funding for Iraq, which will have to end the war, but will they do that? Will they respond to the will of the people, or to the people who pull the strings and shower them with money. If the Democrats do not do what the people voted them in to do, then they should all be voted back out in 2008, for candidates who will.

Video: UCLA Student Brutally Tasered by Campus Security

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts), Videos on November 17th, 2006 12:28 pm by HL

A UCLA Student who was an American citizen of Iranian dissent was tasered repeatedly by security police. The student, Mostafa Tabatabainejad, was studying at the UCLA library, when security guards randomly came up to him and asked him to see his ID. What happened next is not entirely clear, but within minutes Tabatabainejad was on the floor screaming “I’ll Leave” as security hit him over and over again with thousands of volts of electricity causing him to scream out in pain. It was captured on a cell phone cam by one of the other students who were outraged at what they were witnessing. Security threatened to Taser anyone who tried to interfere with the relentless abuse. Keith Olbermann has the video, and an interview with a writer at The UCLA Daily Bruin, who wrote the original story.

H.L.s Take:
I would expect more from a school like UCLA, the chancellor of the University, as well as everyone involved in this incident, and anyone involved in the policy that allowed this to happen should be fired immediately. While we are on the subject of UCLA, get a real Football coach too.

Republican Bring Back Racist Windbag Trent Lott

Senate GOP: Lott’s Racist Comments Are No Longer An Issue, ‘Admire Him For Coming Back’

Think Progress.org
Excerpt:
What was racism in 2002 is a non-issue in 2006. NPR interviewed several senators — including Hagel and McCain — who said that Lott’s racist comments didn’t even come up in his whip nomination:..
Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME): We understand what happened. There’s no point going over. It’s in the past now, you know, and he has expressed, you know, his deep regret, as he should.

H.L.s Take:
Republicans will never change, Who cares if they just got their asses handed to them by the American Public, they’ll just go right on being racist, war mongering, greedy a**holes, and they will probably be back in power in two years thanks to the worthless democrats.

Heres an oldie:

Mainstream Media Wants Iraq To Go on Forever

The New Media Offensive Against Withdrawal

Anti-War.com
Excerpt:
The American media establishment has launched a major offensive against the option of withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq.
In the latest media assault, right-wing outfits like Fox News and the Wall Street Journal editorial page are secondary. The heaviest firepower is now coming from the most valuable square inches of media real estate in the USA – the front page of the New York Times.

The present situation is grimly instructive for anyone who might wonder how the Vietnam War could continue for years while opinion polls showed that most Americans were against it. Now, in the wake of midterm elections widely seen as a rebuke to the Iraq war, powerful media institutions are feverishly spinning against a pullout of U.S. troops.

Israel PM Praises Bush after Meeting With Democrats

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on November 17th, 2006 11:52 am by HL

Olmert Hugs Bush, Praises Iraq War

The Jewish Journal
Excerpt:
The issue was not raised in Olmert’s 10-minute-long meeting with Democratic House leader Nancy Pelosi, or in his longer sit-down with the Senate leadership. Yet on the sidelines of a meeting with a group of Jewish lawmakers from both houses, Olmert was asked if he really meant that the Iraq War promoted stability in the region. He replied, “I really believe that.”

H.L.s Take
Now that we got the Republicans out of power in Congress, the next step is to get Israel out of power in the Congress. Israel represented by the Democratic Party. The more I learn about world politics the more I realize that Israel is in control of both the democrats and republicans? Why is that? Is it because they just funnel a lot of money to both sides? It’s time for The United States Government to put The United States ahead of Israel.

Why Would Bush Ever Want Iraq War to End? (Ask Bart)

I was reading my favorite site on the web yesterday, the great Bartcop. Bart is the smartest, funniest guy in the Liberal blogosphere. If you are not reading his site, you should get over there. Here is a sample of the fine work that Bart does every single day, and has been for the past 10 Years.

Iraq pumped 3.5M barrels daily before Bush invaded

and then they got their 2003 Halliburton upgrade

Bush’s oil gouge, which is going to $100a barrel

makes $350,000,000 Bush will steal every day.

No wonder they were so eager to start a war,

stealing  $350,000,000 every day.

It’s the biggest theft in Earth’s history.

Exxon made
$10B profit in 90 days

$100M a day – all profit – because Bush started a fake war

 Link

Bush’s “Bring ’em on”
death taunt is up to…

2859….2863 American victims

Bush killed another 4 soldiers since yesterday.

Exxon made $100M in profit since Monday.

Think The BFEE is ready for this war to end?

Exxon’s new slogan

$100M and 3.4 soldiers a day!

Meanwhile, Bush’s war costs taxpayers $2 billion a week.

He’s the greatest president ever – if you have oil stocks.

Bush has killed more Americans than Osama.

Video: Bush Sr.: on Telling Truth and Bloggers

Posted in Main Blog (All Posts), Videos on November 14th, 2006 11:56 am by HL

Former President George H.W. Bush Sr. did an interview yesterday with, who else? Fox News. He said he doesn’t write too many letters anymore because he uses “the email” now. He and Barb also stated that Jr. doesn’t use email because he might be subpeonead and be forced “to prove what you said was true,” Classic. He also blames bloggers for the adverse political climate these days. (Yeah the one that just forced all your republican buddies out. Your Welcome.)

Election Hasn’t Stopped Bush’s Civil War

Posted in H.L. News, Main Blog (All Posts) on November 13th, 2006 12:42 pm by HL

While Bush, and The Democrats spar on what to do about Iraq, people are still gettting killed everyday, and we are still spending Tens of Millions of Dollars every week or our tax money on the murderous debacle.

Suicide Bomber Kills 33 in Baghdad

SF Gate
Excerpt:
Bush is a law unto himself
A suicide bomber blew himself up outside a police recruiting center in Baghdad early Sunday, killing at least 33 people and wounding 56, police said.
Crowds of recruits were gathering outside the center in western Baghdad’s Nissur Square when the bomber detonated explosives strapped to his body, police Lt. Maitham Abdul-Razaq said.
He said the death toll was expected to rise because many of the injuries were extremely serious.
The attack was one of several on Sunday in the capital, where sectarian violence kills scores each week. Just south of the city, police were searching for gunmen who killed 10 Shiite travelers and kidnapped about 50 others Saturday night along a notoriously dangerous stretch of highway.
Earlier Sunday, a pair of roadside bombings targeting police patrols in Baghdad killed at least six civilians and wounded six others, said police Cap. Mohammed Abdul-Ghani.

H.L.s Take:
They’ve already supposedly taken impeachment “off the table,” what are they going to do next, take doing anything about Iraq “off the table.” Will they do what the people elected them to do? or what their corporate masters want them to do???

Why Does Nancy Pelosi Hate Hugo Chavez?

Open Letter To:US House Of Representatives Leader Nancy Pelosi And The US House Of Representatives

Rense.com
Excerpt:
You said, “Hugo Chavez fancies himself a modern-day Simon Bolivar, but all he is, is an everyday thug.” And you charged that Chavez “has abused the privilege of speaking at the United Nations.” You could learn a lot from this man, Nancy, because he actually represents not only his people, but the vast majority of people in the world. Part of the reason for the United Nations is to provide people from other nations with a forum to do exactly what Chavez did-which was to simply rebut the policies and practices of what has become the military-dictatorship of the USA-Israeli cabal. You have only to note the length of the applause that greeted Chavez’s remarks to understand how far from reality your own uninformed positions really are.
