lmz,

I may not have read it correctly. I just don't believe it will cost nothing. Insurance cost's something. I do think you have a point about preventitive being more cost effective than the alternative.

I don't want another government or state agency to have to be created to help us get there or handle the program. If that were the case just give everyone Kaiser or whoever and pay the bills like it normally gets done.

What do you think the government will do with the money if they are all of a sudden in charge of such a plan or in charge of all the funds??

I would say waste them, maybe a private company could be in charge of the uninsured or something. I don't know or have the answers, but giving the government a butt load more money is not it.

You are really lucky Buck that you haven't run into any medical problems that you haven't been able to pay for. I had health problems last year that came out of nowhere and the bills were well over $30,000. I was never so happy for insurance in my life! I paid about $3,000 out of pocket. I feel badly for the people who run into the same problems and can't get the type of care I got with my insurance at a wonderful hospital. I have very little faith that any hospital in this area other than the one I was in (UCLA) would have helped me.

I dont have any medical insurance. I just pay it out at the hospital on a bill. Universal health care. Booooooooo! We might as well have universal rent coverage. While we are at it lets get the goverment to buy everone a car. Dont stop there while we are on a roll. Lets get the goverment to place us on a job. The goverment can pay our medical coverage. Everone so no ones left out! The goverment will just cover everthing like Iran does for Hezzbolla. Child birth, jobs provided, cars bought, houses provided, education provided, and yes universal health care. We can even go with goverment provided tolet paper. Sheeeeeeeee*t. That would be a case of the universal dumb ass.

Buzz, I do think you are being insincere when you refer to this as free health care. This is a proposal to provide INSURANCE, which is funded partly with tax money, but also by co-payments and payments made by those who are covered. And if you actually read the article, you see the bill calls for an investigation on funding, it does not commit any money to the program just yet. I also believe that we waste so much money by having to fund health care for people who wait til they are practically dead to see a doctor, just because they don't have insurance. Preventative care is far less expensive than treating people when they are really ill. Insurance allows people to have this sort of treatment. It makes economic sense to me.

So it is not FREE health care. Nothing in this proposal that I see calls for any such thing. If I missed something that is actually in the proposal, please point it out to me. But I think you are twisting it around to make it sound like something it is not.

So not only are you to get free health care, it has to be at the finest hospital in town?? Even though you are not paying for it??

And yes I do believe that if you are paying for care it will be a bit better than care you get for free. And that does not make sense to people here?? Why would I pay for health care if it were free?? Why should I pay for someone elses health care period??

Where does this money come from??? Taxes?? More new taxes?? How bout NO services for people in the state illegally??

That will free up about 20 billion a year for your free health care. How does that sound??

Not being turned away is not the same as getting your services for free. And being treated in a dump like USC is not the same as getting treated at UCLA or Cedars!

You can too be turned away from Hospitals in L.A. They can send you over to County USC, where you can wait up to 6 hours to see a doctor, while you sit in the sleaziest dirtiest, most bacteria ridden hospital in Los Angeles County. And its still not free. What? you think that they don't send you a bill after you leave? You think they won't hound you for years to pay that bill no matter how expensive, and how poor you are. I guess you never heard stories about people not gettting the care they could have gotten if they could afford it.

How is health care not free in California already?? A hospital can't turn you away, it is against the law. Why do I pay eleven dollars for an asprin at the hospital?? So the other 10 people that don't have insurance get theirs for free.

Oh and buy the way HL your take on this one could not be further from the bulls eye.

I totally agree. This is what right-wingers don't get. Investing in things like health care are just that...investments. They are not state-sponsored charity (god forbid we use tax money for things like charity!) If we give people health care, we don't need to provide for them later on when they are even worse of health wise (and more expensive to care for than if we had just given them health care in the first place).

We desperately need more politicians like Sheila Kuehl.
