News Item:Bolton Urges Strong Response From U.N.

HOUSTON – Kenneth Lay, founder and vilified former chairman of scandal-ridden Enron Corp., died of a heart attack Wednesday morning. He was 64.
Nicknamed “Kenny Boy” by President Bush, Lay led Enron’s meteoric rise from a staid natural gas pipeline company formed by a 1985 merger to an energy and trading conglomerate that reached No. 7 on the Fortune 500 in 2000 and claimed $101 billion in annual revenues.
He was convicted in May 25 of defrauding investors and employees by repeatedly lying about Enron’s financial strength in the months before the company plummeted into bankruptcy protection in December 2001.
H.L.s Take: Now how about returning the 9 Billion he stole from California??? Thats the reason we have Arnold for a Governor in the first place. He helped Lay steal the money, and as a result, Gray Davis was recalled, and Arnold brought in. I guess Lay couldn’t stand the thought of Prison. Poetic Justice, which will soon be coming for all Republicans.

Excerpt: WASHINGTON – President Bush’s stalwart foreign friends are fading fast. Most of the leaders who defied criticism at home to stand with him on Iraq and win his friendship are no longer players on the world stage, or are on their way out. And it was a small band of brothers to begin with.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said he’ll step down before the next national election and is coming under increasing pressure from his own party to do it sooner. Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi paid a farewell visit to the United States last week. He is leaving office in September

“This war is a crime,†the icon mother told a crowd of clapping, cheering protesters.
“We represent millions of Americans who withdraw their support from this government.â€
Cindy Sheehan has began a hunger strike at the White House and is pledging to stay as long as it takes until our government does right by our troops and the Iraqi people and returns US troops from Iraq immediately. If you browse around the net however, you wouldn’t even know that she and 150 patriots are camped out in direct confrontation of Bush and his policies. Cindy is providing the spark, but she needs our help to spread the word and raise the volume of our demands for justice.

Excerpt: WASHINGTON – In the early days of the Iraq war, on the last day of his life, Army Sgt. 1st Class Paul R. Smith showed valor that no U.S. soldier has matched in Iraq. Smith’s men came under attack as they mopped up after the capture of Baghdad’s airport. The sergeant braved hostile fire to evacuate three wounded soldiers and single-handedly killed dozens of enemy soldiers before being killed himself as he covered the evacuation of other wounded Americans.
Smith, of Tampa, Fla., posthumously became the first soldier in the Iraq war awarded the Medal of Honor, America’s highest military award, given in recognition of extreme valor in combat. More than three years later, Smith remains the only service member to receive the honor for action in either Iraq or Afghanistan.
H.L.s Take
Not much Honor, or Valor, in fighing a war against a country that did not attack you, just because Bush wants it. Not much honor in killing over 100,000 innocent civilians.

ExcerptALBANY, N.Y. – Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, a longtime supporter of Sen. Joseph Lieberman (news, bio, voting record), said Tuesday she will not back the Connecticut Democrat’s bid for re-election if he loses their party’s primary.
“I’ve known Joe Lieberman for more than 30 years. I have been pleased to support him in his campaign for re-election, and hope that he is our party’s nominee,” the former first lady said in a statement issued by aides.
“But I want to be clear that I will support the nominee chosen by Connecticut Democrats in their primary,”
H.L.s Take
Poor Joe Lie-berman. He won’t be able to lick Bush’s sack as a Democrat anymore. If he runs as an Independent he will probably syphon off just as many Republican votes as Democrats, which will clear the way for Ned Lamont to step in. Hey Joe, why not just run as a Republican, you are the biggest DINO in congress anyway.

“We hope we have a strong and unanimous signal from the council that this kind of behavior is unacceptable,” Bolton said.
H.L.s Take
Do you believe this F**king guy. He runs around yelling about how meaningless the UN is, but as soon as we wants something from them, he changes his tune in a hurry. Just like Bush the other day crying to congress about the Supreme Court decision on Guantanamo inmates. Bush uses his signing statements to negate Congress, then goes runnign screaming to them when he needs something. Of course congress will bow down and give the boy king whatever he wants.
CNNExcerpt: MEXICO CITY, Mexico (AP) — Mexico’s leftist party demanded Tuesday that electoral officials recount every vote cast in the country’s closest presidential race ever, claiming the balloting was manipulated.
The call renewed fears that Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador will launch massive street protests if he doesn’t get his way.
Lopez Obrador’s campaign manager for made the announcement in a statement read to reporters, laying the foundation for weeks of political uncertainty.
Lopez Obrador’s supporters claim the preliminary vote count showing business-friendly rival Felipe Calderon with an advantage of about 400,000 votes was manipulated. (Watch why two candidates think they’re winners — 2:13)
USA TodayExcerpt: WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court intervened Monday to save a large cross on city property in southern California.
A lower court judge had ordered the city of San Diego to remove the cross or be fined $5,000 a day.
Justice Anthony Kennedy, acting for the high court, issued a stay while supporters of the cross continue their legal fight.
H.L.s TakeSeperation of Church and State anyone???.
Washington PostExcerpt:
Under a federal court settlement in place for nearly a decade, private deer and elk hunts staged on the island must end by 2011 and the nonnative game must be removed.
But not if Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) has his way: The Armed Services Committee chairman wants to keep the trophy animals on the island and allow military veterans to hunt them. “This is a wonderful opportunity for paralyzed veterans and severely disabled veterans to have an opportunity for a high-quality outdoor experience,” he said

It would be bad enough if Blackwell were acting merely to benefit his party, as he did in 2004. But in this case he’s taking advantage of his office to act on behalf of his own ambitions. Unless something changes between now and November, he will remain in charge of counting the votes — his own and everyone else’s. In a pivotal election in a pivotal state, this is far from reassuring. As Peg Rosenfield, an elections specialist with the League of Women Voters of Ohio who spent twelve years working in the secretary of state’s office in the pre-Blackwell era, put it, “If you think ’04 was a mess, just wait. I anticipate a debacle.”
Blackwell and his Democratic challenger, Ted Strickland, are locked in a tough fight over the succession to Bob Taft, the scandal-tainted, widely reviled incumbent governor, whose approval ratings are lower even than Dick Cheney’s.

Wouldn’t you like to know where Dick Cheney puts his money? Then you’d know whether his “deficits don’t matter” claim is just baloney or not.
Well, as it turns out, Kiplinger Magazine ran an article based on Cheney’s financial disclosure statement and, sure enough, found out that the VP is lying to the American people for the umpteenth time. Deficits do matter and Cheney has invested his money accordingly.
The article is called “Cheney’s betting on bad news” and provides an account of where Cheney has socked away more than $25 million.
